It can definitely interfere with skiing, socializing and in general having a good time. Despite these few drawbacks, a lot of studying can be used as an advantage at times. I have to study for a math final and write a five page outline for English tonight, has been accepted as the standard I'm- in-worse-shape-than-you game, in which students try to gain sympathy from parents and teachers by listing the work they didn't do that night, which creates later cramming sessions. Septmeber 21, Frenchtown-16 Loyola-35 With the loss of three Defensive and Offensive starters, the rivalry ended in the most disappointing loss in the three years of our Homecoming. The wood was chopped and stacked by the juniors and the pit was dug by the freshman class. The night of September 21, there was a turnabout of events as the Broncs lost to the Rams with a score of 35 to 16; but the Broncs put up a first-class fight. Even though the students were not in the best of moods, the Ringly Brothers Band livened them up at the homecoming dance Saturday night following the game. They remained undefeated throughout the Divisional tourney in Mission. Then it was on to State in Billings. Here the girls' character and determination were shown as they were defeated in the second game and came back to take fourth place. Next year will be even better as the Broncs return with many experienced players. Congratulations girls and coaches on a season of fine play, your strength, courage and heartaches will be remembered in the years to come. The leadership and willpower of this year's Seniors will likewise not be forgotten: Shawnee Henderson, Trish Watson, Colleen Erickson, and Kim Ryan. Individual accomplishments were outstanding. The boys' team did not fare so well as they were plagued with injuries. This running is serious stuff! 13 ■ Student Life 00 Student life displays freedom among all High School students. In general, time is spent relaxing on the front lawn, or taking a break from a class period. Students seem to grasp any given opportunity, to escape the day to day routine of school. Fall Concert 00 Both performances by the band and chorus were exceptional. The High School music department carries an outstanding reputation throughout Western Montana. Scott Floren concentrates on perfection. Mr White directs the band to an outstanding performance Valerie Nelson demonstrates the bassoon while, below, the concert choir directs their attention on Merle Johnston. Academic Life Although many students wait until two o'clock in the morning to finish a term paper or study for a test, they still realize the importance of academics. A wide variety of winter academics included research, student lectures, and poster design. Two interesting guest speakers high-lighted the winter season. Miss Jody Young spoke to students about rape, presenting the legal implications and social ramifications of sexual assault. Birth control was the subject of Donna Taylor's presentation, revealing to students the methods of planned parenthood. Jody Young gives a lecture on the techniques of women's self defense Studying has been good for Tod and Tony so far. Shawnee Henderson lends a helping Donna Taylor speaks of the birds hand to Traci Jette and bees! The Broncs finished the season with an 11-10 record, their first winning record since being promoted to the B classification in 1977. Included in that record was an 8-6 regular season league record, which was good for sole possession of third place, behind the Loyola Rams and the Plains Horsemen. The Broncs were captained by the only three seniors on the squad: Andy Sherry, Tim Bagnell and Brad Parker, all three turned in solid performances. The junor class supplied the surprises of the year. In his first year in a Bronc uniform, Frank Lovell led the team in scoring, and was selected to the all-conference team. Tom Glessner aided in the battle by averaging in double figures. Rounding out the promising junior class of front-liners was Scott Palmer, who rebounded from an early season bout with pneumonia. Belov ; Scott Palmer adding to the total. They were led by Rick West, who nearly led the team in steals while operating out of the reserve guard role. Kenny Miller, Quayne Green, Bryan Schellinger and Chuck Cline also showed much promise in their combined varsity and J.V. play, forming the nucleus of Bronc Basketball for the future. The Varsity and J.V. squads were combined for the 1979-80 season, carrying a total of 16 players throughout the year and practicing together every day. The junior varsity responded with an outstanding year, compiling a 14-2 record while averaging nearly 70 points a contest. In the state meet Frenchtown reached the semi's with six members; Susan Hofman, Kathleen Richardson, Cheryl Kuykendall, Donna and Darlene Richert, and Shari Stevens, who received the highest award, 3rd place in pantomime. SPRING PROM Always Forever Fiddler On The Roof 41 In the play Fiddler On The Roof written by Joseph Stein, the problems that a small Jewish town in Russia faces during the early 19th Century, are portrayed. Mr. Stein's story is based primarily on the trials and tribulations of one family. That family, living in the village of Anatevka located in the Ukraine, has followed the same traditions generation after generation, and then rather suddenly these traditions are forced to change, as a result of pressure being exerted from outside of the Jewish culture. Through all the practices, dress rehearsals, make-up, photo sessions, etc.; Fiddler On The Roof proved to be a success. Before the final productions the cast of 72 students worked for 4 months memorizing lines, songs, and blocking. The excitement reached a high during the hour make-up session shown here. The production brought in almost $1800 in net profits. All in all the play was a learning experience as well as enjoyable for all involved. 44 ANDERS OFFICE MACHINE CO. A CA DEMIC LIFE Academics is often stereotyped to be dull, lifeless, and boring. But in the spring, many teachers added some variety to their classes by involving the students in entertaining field trips, and informative student lectures. Mount St. Helens erupted on May 18, 1980. The ash floated from St. Helens to the East Coast. Frenchtown schools were closed for four days. These days we had to make up later. When the ash fell, nobody was to leave their houses, everyone was stuck indoors watching t.v., or reading a good book. The ash could be seen coming for eight miles. The sun couldn't shine through causing a black out, like another eclipse had hit the world. The ash covered everything with an inch deep coat. It was like dry cement that lay all over. 82 Ash and fragments of magma as high as 63,000 feet v stratosphere Particles suspended in this zone for up to two years The ash covered many states, causing policemen to block streets and highways because of poor visibility. Shoveling the ash was like shoveling a light snow fall. Masks and hats were required to be worn to keep the ash out of our lungs. The ash was harmful to people with breathing problems.
