The seven-member team; Kim Davis, Lyle Freeman, Loreen Felstet, Tina Peterson, Ken Davis, Debbie Steele, and Dave MacDonald, were later joined by Lauren Whelan and Gary Seymore, accompanying the now nine-mem- ber team. The team is coached enthusiastically by Gary Graves and Sidney Poole. Outcome of the meets are as follows: Fourth place fell to Kim Davis and Lyle Freeman in their catagory of Humorous Duo at a meet in Poison. Debbie Steele became a finalist at a Columbia Falls meet in her catagory, Pantomine. In the Frenchtown sponsored meet, Loreen Felstet became a finalist of Expository, and ended up with a fourth place seating. Lyle Freeman and Kim Davis added to Frenchtowns' score by capturing fourth place in their Humorous Duo act. Tina Peterson added her two bits with a finalist spot in Impromptu. In other competition around the state; Vicki Shipe became a finalist in Expository, end- ing up with a sixth place seating was accompanied by Ken Davis, who captured, also, a sixth place ribbon in his catagory, Impromptu. Geraldine took the team on a nice vacationing trip, where Vicki Shipe took fourth in Expository, Ken Davis captured fourth in Impromptu, Loreen Felstet held fourth place in Expository, and Tina Peterson took fifth in Impromptu. Divisionals was what everyone waited for, and when it came around, Frenchtown swept it away. Lyle Freeman and Tina Peterson captured first place In Serious Duo. Gary Seymore and Lauren Whelan swept second in Humourous Duo, and Debbie Steele added her share of the points with third place in Humorous Solo to bring Frenchtown their first place trophy! State competition became a little tougher, where Lyle Freeman and Tina Peterson tied for sixth place seatings. 37 L TO R: Mrs, Cork, Leaf Magnuson, Lisa Green, Lyle Freeman, Jackie Hawkins, Cindy Lake, Linda Allen, Julie Fisher, HI-LITE STAFF Editor-Julia Fisher Grade Editor-Cindy Lake Sports Editor-Leaf Magnuson Re porters-Linda Allen, Lyle Freeman, Cindy Lake, Leaf Magnuson, Debbie Rockwood, Liedeke Rappe, Doug Schaffer, John Halverstadt, Dave MacDonald Advisor-Mrs. Lee Cork Some of the staff transferred into Journal- ism at semester and were NOT PICTURED, r CZZ T1 T1 | H C-0 An an unknown Annual photographer was browsing through a Saturday night basketball game, they spied an unidentified band member who doesn't practice very often. The three day' trip was a real surprise for many of the students. Two nights and three days in the mountains forced them to use their resources to survive. Mr. Unruh, Mr. Larcom, and Miss Huffman accompanied the group. Wmz 1 m 67 FRENCHTOWN 1776- FRONTIER 1976, the Bicentennial year. Mr. Johnston's American history classes de- cided to preserve the Frenchtown valley's early heritage and put it on display for the community and school. First they planned the use of the land - the placement of the buildings and foundations. Then they acquired ownership of two of the oldest buildings in the valley and moved them onto the school grounds. The rest of the school year was devoted to classroom research and preparation for ex- position day - MAY 7, 1976. BICENTENNIAL -1976 EXPOSITION On exposition day all the activities of frontier days were re-created. Outdoor cooking, baking in wood fired stoves, making jerky, spinning, rug making, branding cattle, candle making, mining, tanning leather, making shingles and erecting log buildings were all demonstrated along with frontier justice by hanging on a replica of old scaffolds. Randy and Kerry Miesner demonstrate frontier jus- tice by hanging Todd Palmer throughout the day. Hi O Silver is ready to go. Stan Job prospects for gold in them thar hills. Lauren Whelan and help, make rag rugs. Silvis Boelke stole the show with her demonstration of spinning raw wool into yarn. Always hungry Bob Sanchelli does his favorite thing - cooking and eating. The news media came for pictures for newspapers, T.V., and films. Some of the students and towns- people saw for the first time how things were done in the good ole days . The project of demonstrations was a one day affair but the restoration of the buildings will go on for years. The lessons learned will not be forgotten by those who performed and those who witnessed in the bicentennial year of 1976. Sandy Rockwood and Marlene Colodanato make quilts for the cold winter's nite. Western drama is done by Roy Rankin and Dan Lucier. 71 Break time for the branding crew. Aha, I finally caught it. says Dave Moore. Hegel is looking for gold! The Community museum will be established in the log building behind Dennis Zemliska (RIGHT). It will be a show place for our western heritage and the valley s past. Our sincere thanks to Mr. Merele Johnston and his assis- tants, Mrs. Nancy Blake, Mr. Gary Graves, Mr. Rick Unruh, Mr. Don Bray and all the students who helped make it a great exposition.
