PLUTONIAN 1951 For basketball queen, Miss Sue McCarty was chosen as candidate from the Sophomore Class. It seemed almost no time until another halt was called and the Sophomores hurried ashore for a good time for four months. September 1949 came and the old Sophomore class was greeted by their Cap' tain, Mr. john B. Hammerling. A new ship was anchored at the pier and on its side were the word, jolly Juniors. Miss Sellers, Mrs. Alta Marie Pershing and Mr. Edward Claxton read the list of those who had left the Sophomore group. The Juniors set to work in earnest for they had much to do. With raging storms around us someone had to be put in charge to keep the ship calm. Shirley Matson . . . ..... President Connie Gruber . . . . . Vice President Sue McCarty . . . . . Secretary Jane Simmons . . . . Treasurer Sam Hall .... . . . Reporter They were given the right of Leadership. With several of our boys in basketball we were proud to have Marilyn Hill elected from our class one of the Yell Leaders for the year of 49950. We were also honored again this year by having our class president, Shirley Matson, representing the Jolly juniors as candidate for basketball queen. While on this voyage it was not all to be work, a little entertainment was also necessary. On November 16, a class play was given entitled Take Your Medicine. Those who made up the Cast were: Paul Oswald, Opal Weikert, Zane Wininger, Marilyn Hill, Jerry Kerns, Shirley Matson, Frank Marshall, Connie Gruber, Joanne Daugherty, James Potts, Sue McCarty, Mary Jane Cave, and jane Simmons. Although the juniors were at sea was no reason for Santa to forget them when Christmas came. For Christmas they received their class rings. The most important frolic of the year was the Juniors' reception for the Sen' iors on an island. It was here the Juniors realized they were nearing their own goal and as they watched the great boat sail away they decided to fight harder than ever. Following another brief vacation of four months the remaining boys and girls of the Freshman group came on board a ship with L'Seniors 'SF' painted in huge red letters on a white background. It was found that several had left for other ports. Now, the Senior Class sponsored by Miss Joyce Beatty and Mr. Dan Dimich, were off for another cruise for nine months. Leading the class this year were: PAGE sues-:TEEN

PLUTONIAN 1951 Class History SHIP AHOY! A whistle sounded. The good ship Freshies was leaving the port of Grade School and setting sail on the Sea of Knowledge for the City of Graduation. Captain Louis Breeden hailed Mrs. Chester Knight and Mr. G. L. Aylsworth to weigh the anchor and the ship sailed off. Three other ships had already left the port at other times and were waiting at islands along the course, to sail alongside the Freshies. Upon the sea the 65 Fresh' men began to feel their importance. In electing their leaders for the voyage they chose: James Ferguson . . . ...... President Frank Marshall .. ......... Vice President Paul Oswald .. Secretary and Treasurer Elmer Compton ......................... Reporter Several of our boys entered different sports. The main one of which was basketball. The Freshie's candidate, Miss Joanne Daugherty, was elected queen to reign over the four ships during the basketball season of '479-18. During the first storm of monthly tests many Freshmen became sea sick and for several days afterward kept to their cabins. One night Captain Louis Breeden issued orders to prepare the life boats. They were approaching the most dangerous channel of the course-Semester Exams, For two days, the great ship tossed madly to and fro upon the wild waves, then it sailed onward into a calm sea. Captain Breeden's keen eyes, as he stood at the prow. saw land in the dis' tance. As the mists cleared the ship anchored at an island. Here a halt was called and four months were spent in vacation. The year that had begun in September l947 had come to an end and the Freshmen had said farewell to one another and were off for a good time on the island. In the fall of 1948 with Mr. Louis Breeden at the helm, the ship once more set sail. During the four months vacation it had been repaired and now huge letters announced to the world in general, that this was the ship Sophomores, Mrs. Hannah Lindsey and Mr, Edward Claxton were in charge of the class and upon calling the roll it was found that a number had left the ship as Freshies. Leaving the good times and storms of the year before in their memories only, the Sophomores now devoted themselves to their new duties. The class sponsors helped us in electing our class officers for this voyage. Those elected for leadership were: Marilyn Moore ...... President Zane Wininger ......... Vice President James' Potts .... . . . Secretary and Treasurer Jerry Kerns .... ............. R eporter PAGE SEVENTEEN

R eporter In chosing candidates for queen, Miss Marilyn Hill was chosen ,to represent the Senior Class. The Seniors were very proud to have two Yell Leaders elected from their class, Sue McCarty and James Potts, for the season of 195031. The last year was the happiest, yet the saddest of all the other years for therc were many activities, but the last ones for the class of '5l. With their work finished, the Senior Class of '51 stood at the railing of the ship and as it entered the City of Graduation the voices of the Seniors came back over the waves with the words: HITCH YOUR WAGON TC A STAR.
