PLUTONIAN 1951 Class History SHIP AHOY! A whistle sounded. The good ship Freshies was leaving the port of Grade School and setting sail on the Sea of Knowledge for the City of Graduation. Captain Louis Breeden hailed Mrs. Chester Knight and Mr. G. L. Aylsworth to weigh the anchor and the ship sailed off. Three other ships had already left the port at other times and were waiting at islands along the course, to sail alongside the Freshies. Upon the sea the 65 Fresh' men began to feel their importance. In electing their leaders for the voyage they chose: James Ferguson . . . ...... President Frank Marshall .. ......... Vice President Paul Oswald .. Secretary and Treasurer Elmer Compton ......................... Reporter Several of our boys entered different sports. The main one of which was basketball. The Freshie's candidate, Miss Joanne Daugherty, was elected queen to reign over the four ships during the basketball season of '479-18. During the first storm of monthly tests many Freshmen became sea sick and for several days afterward kept to their cabins. One night Captain Louis Breeden issued orders to prepare the life boats. They were approaching the most dangerous channel of the course-Semester Exams, For two days, the great ship tossed madly to and fro upon the wild waves, then it sailed onward into a calm sea. Captain Breeden's keen eyes, as he stood at the prow. saw land in the dis' tance. As the mists cleared the ship anchored at an island. Here a halt was called and four months were spent in vacation. The year that had begun in September l947 had come to an end and the Freshmen had said farewell to one another and were off for a good time on the island. In the fall of 1948 with Mr. Louis Breeden at the helm, the ship once more set sail. During the four months vacation it had been repaired and now huge letters announced to the world in general, that this was the ship Sophomores, Mrs. Hannah Lindsey and Mr, Edward Claxton were in charge of the class and upon calling the roll it was found that a number had left the ship as Freshies. Leaving the good times and storms of the year before in their memories only, the Sophomores now devoted themselves to their new duties. The class sponsors helped us in electing our class officers for this voyage. Those elected for leadership were: Marilyn Moore ...... President Zane Wininger ......... Vice President James' Potts .... . . . Secretary and Treasurer Jerry Kerns .... ............. R eporter PAGE SEVENTEEN
