The Athletic Council treated the members of the French High School football team to a trip to New Orleans to see the 1940 Sugar Bowl classic between Tulane and A. and M. To the right is Dr. jones who unselfishly served as team doctor. He attended all the home games under some very adverse circumstances and was always ready to give his time and services. We are very thankful that he has said that he will serve as team physician next year. Football Scztson Opens . COACH li. September 22 the young Buffs tied club, defending Bi-district champions, 7 to 7 in one of the best Beaumont. St. Anthony was defeated 47 to O on September 29 This decisive triumph saw everyone play exceptionally well, and boys could really do in an evenly matched conflict. October 6 19 to O before South Park in a bitterly fought tilt after holding the District AA champions on even terms a large part of the game. Our district schedule opened October 13 when Pt. Acres won 15 to 6 after we were stopped on the one foot line at the half. Hard luck continued in the Pt. Neches game, October Z7, which we lost 19 to 12 after giving them three touchdowns in the first half. Nederland, who won our district title, had too much weight and experience for the young Buffs but the game November 10 was hard-fought and drew one of the largest crowds in the history of the district. In the last game of the year, November 17, Silsbee because of their superior weight, finally defeated the much lighter Buffs on a muddy field by a lone touchdown. lt is significant that the Buffs compiled more first downs than their opponents, and that hard luck accounted for every touchdown scored against themean intercepted pass, a blocked punt, or a very costly fumble. A large number of the members of the 1959 scrappy little Buff team will return next fall and should be double tough with a year's growth and this valuable experience. , si S C -x.lPl.lll1L'lLLl Cnlwlw AllIl4YgI'.ll'llN P11721 H11 LINC iUllgl'1lllll.lllUll5 J fullgllt lW.lIllL'. Our thanks go to Mrs. L. M.
