Mitchell Mr. Max L. Mitchell has devoted a large portion of his life to education, to our school, and to our students and it is because of this that we express our apprecia- tion in this VISTULA. He has used his patience and wisdom to put constructive ideas into the thought streams of the students which will surely appear in the actions of their future lives. Although he will no longer be our principal, we are fortunate that he will re- main in the school system where he can continue to increase the potential of every student he aids in any way. Mr. Mitchell leaves to us the heritage of fine example of character which we all can strive to emulate. 16 The Board of School Trustees were as follows: Mr Don Ireland. Mrs. Hildred Antrup. It’s medicine for the soul, food for love, the essence of divinity, a reason for being. Fred McConnell Eagles Take First At Auburn The Eagle Pep Band induces spirit and enthusiasm at pep sessions and ball games. Two of their favorite numbers are “Twenty-five or Six to Four” and “Everyday With You Girl”. The Marching Eagles provide the entertainment for the halftime show. In September A great many high school bands beat a great many drums. And the silences after their partings are very deep. Reed Whittemore. The 73-74 Eagle Band deserves much credit. At the Auburn Fair rain caused many bands to pack up and go home, but not Fremont. The Marching Eagles exhibited their talent and hard work to come out on top with a first place in the Class C Division. The band also participared in the LaGrange County Corn School Parade. Members of the band attended a game at Bowling Green to observe the practice and performance of the Bowling Green Band. The Eagle Band also added orchestral arrangements to two local school concerts and the graduation ceremonies The band's entertainment was much appreciated and enlightened the area residents. This year twenty of the members participated in the regional contest at Northrup Five of the mem- bers placed, they are. Robyn Bruns. Vicky Budd, Sandra Isenhower. Debbie Vaughn, and Linda Emercik. Sandra and Robyn went on to state. Office Education Association is an orgainzation designed to develop the members abilities and knowledge of the business world. They are fortunate in having one of the most well equipped business laboratories in the state. The business lab is set up like a real office and has modernistic facilities. This organization had the assistance of five sponsors. Ms. Cook. Ms. Gould, Ms. Penix, Ms. Bledsoe, and Mr. Erlenbaugh. 40 Future Homemakers Of America This year the FHA worked hard to earn money for their treasury. Two banquets were served the the FFA boys in which the girls bought the food, had it prepared, and served the courses. Tasty homemade baked goods provided an income of over thirty dollars because they were sold at the Halloween Carnival. The FHA club co-sponsored the Sweetheart Dance which is be- ing decorated in the above photo. The girls worked hard to put on a nice dance for the school with the Tri Hi Y. 41 Jenny puts up the final decoration. THE NATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR BOYS STUDYING VOCATIONAL AGRICULTURE Two Boys Selected For State Chorus. Mortician. Gerald McHatten was the guest speaker at the April banquet. Chris. Greg. Math Club Visits Museum Student Council Members of the Math Club took a trip to the Museum of Science and Industry at Chicago. One of the bigger accomplishments of the club was sending Robin Hillard, Deb Ferguson, Jon Close, and Don Adams to Math Contest at Tri State. Ted's favorite exhibit at the Museum was the large pendulum. The Student Council is designed to help the students at Fremont express their views to the administration. They also organize the Homecoming and the Halloween Carnival and decorate a Christmas tree for the school. 43 Canteen Workers The canteen workers are as follows: R TO L. S. Church. D Adams. L. Smith. R Hillard. C Baker. V. Shively. K Penner. J. White. T Mims. Emerick. D. Smith. K. Shaeffer. D. Vaughn. A. Becher. D. Smith. T. and S. Champion. Seven girls were utilized in the library this year. They aided the students in finding books and checking them out. Overdue books and library fines were handl- ed by these girls too. One of the hardest jobs is keeping the library in neat order. The library has been kept a studing environment for those who are willing to use the facilities in an orderly, peaceful manner. Librarians Workers in the canteen serve hungry students at noon everything from potato chips to ice cream. They also have sacrificed missing part of the Eagle ball games to wait on fans who need candy bars to boost their energy, of pop to soothe their hoarse throats, or popcorn to remedy their excitement. The canteen has been most sufficient in supplying anything the customers want with the exception of gum. This year as in others the canteen workers delighted in a three course meal at the Fireside Inn at Marshall. Michigan. They returned with filled stomachs and a nice memory of being a canteen worker. In the upstairs room of the Redwood Chalet the Senior girls were delighted to find a coursage for each of them to match their dresses, as was the sponsor Ms. Cook. A smorgasboard-type meal was then served featuring turkey and ham as the main course. Following the satisfying meal, installation of officers took place with Karma Noragon handing down the gavel. New members received pins and the Seniors were presented with crosses. Speeches by the Seniors and Ms. Cook brought about a feeling of sincere friendship and love between all the girls. The organization of the first Hobo Dance is credited to the Tri Hi Y They also sponsored the Sweetheart Dance On the day of the Hobo Dance it appears that the girls can’t have the gym to decorate. 45 The Club Du Franqais has done a tremendous job of bringing French culture to Fremont High School. They have brought to the students the rich pasteries of old France in the style of a cafe complete with French music. The first French Day was a big success and was enjoyed by all. Club Du Frangais Many students enjoyed the delicious pasteries at the French Cafe. The French and Latin Clubs celebrated Christmas together by caroling to the area residents. Afterwards the two clubs had separate parties. 46 Ms. Carol Ullo aided the club with her experiences from liv- ing in France for a period of time. The Latin Club under the sponsorship of Ms Bette Lenaburg, enters into the joyous celebration of the Roman Banquet with food ranging from turkey and ham to cups of nector. All these things were served by an abundant supply of slaves. Junior Classical League Saturnalia, the Roman Christmas was celebrated with the exchange of Roman myth symbols. Roman banquet is the annual climax of the year for the JCL. A fiesta type feeling revolved around the theme of “Roman Holidays”. Columns, slaves, and a pool provided a dash of old Rome culture. The banquet consisted of Roman games, a slave auction, and the four- course dinner which was served by the slaves. Roman costumes were worn by both slaves and masters. All the events were overseen by this years royalty; Queen Jenny Crandall and King Chris Baker. Two of their activities which were profitable to others were cleaning the streets of town and being foster parents to an orphan. Kim and Bridget are the slaves of Tony and Jeff and they must do everything their masters order them to do. 47 Crew Club Displays Artistic Talent Displays by the Crew Club showed the talent of many of the students at Fre- mont in the field of art. During the week various activities spon- sored by the cheerleaders were enacted. Everyday for the week the football players could come to school and expect a little suprise in their locker. It was anything from bubble gum to good luck signs. The even- ing before the big game the school had its first powder puff football game in which the cheerleaders tangled with the pep club team. Both teams tried extremely hard but the cheerleaders came out on top with a shut out victory. After the game the annual bonfire was lit. The highlight of the bonfire was when the cheerleaders led spirited backers in raising cheers and chants for the players. The night of the Homecom- ing game started with a parade of floats and candidates to the football field. The game proved to be a success as the Eagles defeated the Edon Bombers 8 to 6. Another highlight was at halftime when the reigning queen. Robin Brown, crowned Susie Swager as the new homecoming queen. The following evening a dance was held to celebrate the homecoming victory. Senior candidate Susie Swager with escort Stan White. 1972 Queen Robin Brown with escort Chuck Northam. Junior candidate Sherie Hampshire with escort Mark Knisely. Everyone came to see the hot pot. It depicts the story of a neighboring girls school, Worthington Womens Academy, and a boys school. Jason. Each school is getting up a pot to be given to the person who gets stuck with the worst date. The results are hilarious since everyone wants the money. Sherie Hampshire and Kurt Church carry the two starring roles. Eagles Finish Over .500 Mark Two Years In A Row The Fremont Eagle Football team, under the fine leadership of Coach Jim Dilbone was assisted by Coaches Ballinger. Gilbert, and Kindinger, rounding out an excep- tional coaching staff. The team was strengthened by 6 seniors. Three of the seniors. Robert Book, George Doty, and Dennis Spidel made all conference honors. Mike Meeks, a hard working junior, also achieved all conference status. The remaining seniors, Lowell Pocock. Randy Quick, and Terry Smith, worked hard in aiding the team to achieve their record. The conference was relatively balanced this year, as every team experienced at least one loss through the process of the year. The Eagles finished their conference record with three wins and two losses, ending up third in the conference. One of the highlights of the year was the Homecoming victory. The gridders of Fremont took a close 8-6 win from Edon of Ohio. The team contained many younger members, including their sophomore quarterback Greg Schumacher. Even with the loss of six talented seniors, the future of the program is very bright. 92 This it the man. The team was a very tightly molded group as they held together in many tough games. The season was climaxed as the Junior Eagles defeated a tough Central Noble squad in an ex- citing ball game. Stan White The 1974 Eagle basketball team finished the 73- 74 season with a 10-10 record. This was the first time in several years the basketball program has balanced the win-loss column. The Eagles were coached by Fred Perry, in his third year at Fremont. The team started the season off by defeating rival Prairie Heights, 92-72, only to lose the game on a forfeit. Had the win been counted, the Varsity team would have finished the Conference 4-2. During the season, they defeated con- ference rival Westview, something never previously done by Fremont. Then the final game of the season, we bowed out of the sectional to Angola. After giving the Hornets a substantial lead at the half, the Eagles worked hard to close the point margin. After tighten- ing up on defense, the Eagles went to the basket more frequently, and attempted to make the larger size Hornet team commit errors. A long, last shot could only pull the Fremont Eagles to within three points, and the season for the team was ended.
