'k-f-'TLQ -- 1' - Brief History of the District The West Side Union High School District was organized in September, 1921. The first year cmd a half following the organization was devoted to confer- ences to determine whether the district should unite with other high school districts or start its own school. On Tuesday evening, May 1, 1923, it was unanimously decided to start a high school in the district. The school started Wednesday, May 2, in rooms of the Sunnyvale Elementary School Building. In Iune, 1923, the board purchased the present site of the high school and had constructed the building pictured below. This building, with additions, was used until the new building was constructed in 1925, at which time the school's name was changed to Fremont Union High School. ln 1935, a beau- tiful library building and a swimming tank were constructed, thus making Fremont one of the finest academic school plants in California. From its first school of 1923 to the present, Fremont has grown rapidly and has sent its graduates out to make a real contribution to civilization. They operate like a board of any large business concern. They meet at stated times and formulate the policies of the school-both educational and financial-and delegate the execution of their policies to administrative officers. MHWWS 5 N K E Student Government at Fremont Fremont is a splendid laboratory for training in good citizenship. It is the policy of the school to give the student-body organization all the responsibility it can properly carry. Student government closely parallels adult government in the opportunities which it offers to the individual citizen to perform or shirk his civic dutes. The good citizen of Fremont Union High School must vote, obey the law, help en- force the law, hold office, serve on the student court Cwhich is equivalent to jury dutyi, keep informed, help mold public opinion, and select, respect, and sup- port Worthy leaders. In general, our students do about as well in the performance of their govern- mental duties, as do we adults. The hope for better government in the future lies in the fact that in some respects they out-perform us. This is particularly true in the selection of those best qualified to fill positions. of responsibility, and in the willingness of those selected to make the personal sacrifices which hold- ing office necessarily entails. 07' -in A47 SPRING Top row, left to right-Wilma Pickings, Chairman of Assembly Committee, David Dow, Treasurer, Fred Almos, Chairman of Ticket Sales, Albert Wurz, Student Court Iudge, Ronald Maas, Chairman of Legislature, Ellison Meinecke, Secretary.
