Seam Elm Zfamzq ln the fall of 1954 an exuberant freshman group embarked upon their high school careers as students of Fremont High School. Under the guidance of Miss Orr, Mr. DeJong, Mr. Saunders, Mrs. Willson, Mr. Myers and Mr. Hermance we chose our leaders for the year. Those chosen were Steve Dawe, president, Pat Kempf, vice-presi- dent, Bettie Cook, secretary, and Barbara Young, treasurer. We were represented in Student Council by Carol Tanis, Carol Reed, Milton Bolles, Corrine Hooker and Arlene Lampman. Regardless of our many participants in the various seasonal sports, music and dramatics we found time to schedule a skating party at Curvecrest with the tenth grade. The fall of '55 showed us to be experienced soph- omores. We elected Owen Smith, president, Judy Holcomb, vice-president, Helen Gerber, secretary, and Sharon DeKuiper and Cynthia Heynen, co- treasurers. We were well represented in student government by Steve Dawe, Milan Moat, Ilona Skald- ers, Norma Weiden and Judy Gilliland. We bene- fited extremely from the assistance of Mr. Provines, Mr. Cooper, Mrs. Willson, Mr. Warner, Mr. Amund- sen and Mr. Snellenberger, our class sponsors. A profitable financial proiect indulged in by our sophomore class was the car wash, which resulted in the envy of all other classes. ln football, basketball, track, baseball and tennis our class was proud of their showing in membership. We were fortunate to have two spirited members, Doreen Willis and Bettie Cook, as Varsity Cheer- leaders to cheer these boys forward. As we progressed into our Junior year we were faced with many new responsibilities. To carry on the business of our class we elected Carl DeKuiper, president, Jim Meyers, vice-president, Marie Mellon, secretary, and Jane Laskowski, treasurer. Our ad- visors were Mr. DeJong, Mr. Fosheim, Mr. Kwast, Mr. Hermance and Mrs. Fowler. Representing us in the Student Council were Bettie Cook, Corrine Hooker, Milan Maat, Wayne Smalli- gan and Dick Trindle. The student body displayed their faith in the Junior class by electing Steve Dawe, vice-president of the Student Council and Carl De- Kuiper, treasurer. Ilona Skalder displayed her oratorical ability by winning the United Nations Contest for a trip to New York and Washington, D. C. Under the direction of Mr. Fosheim we presented our Junior Play, Father Knows Best, a three act comedy, in November. Our theme for the Junior-Senior Banquet was Around the World with our own representatives from Japan, the United States, Hawaii and other countries. Two of our athletes demonstrated remarkable ability by being chosen for the All Ken-New-Wa Team. They were Art Rottman and Bob VandenBerg. Our most eventful year arrived with additional opportunities and duties. To lead us in this all important year as Seniors we elected Steve Dawe, president, Elaine Brooks, vice-president, Marie Mel- lon, secretary, and Norma Weiden, treasurer. With our chief sponsor, Miss VanHorn, and the assistance of Mr. Durkee, Mr. Adair, Mrs. Boerman and Miss Elmquest, we were guided on the right path throughout the year. Our representatives to the Student Council were Orville Elema, Pat Kempf, Art Rottman and Carol Tanis. The cabinet members were Dan Weirich, Owen Smith, Wayne Smalligan and Corrine Hooker. Two of our seniors were chosen by the student body as officers of the Student Council. They were Milan Maat, president, and Bettie Cook, treasurer. The Homecoming was presided over by lovely Queen Jane Laskowski. Leading athletes were Art Rottman, Carl DeKuiper, Bob VandenBerg and Marlyn Shell who were chosen for the All Ken-New-Wa Team. Marlyn Shell was chosen All State by the Detroit Free Press. To cheer the team on we had such spirited Varsity Cheer- leaders as Bettie Cook, Shirley Kingsford, Carol Tanis and Doreen Willis. Our class produced a fine cook with Karen Wood winning first prize in the local Cherry Pie Contest. The Betty Crocker Homemaker Award was won by Jane Weisner. Under the direction of Miss Elmquest we produced the Senior Play, Strange Boarders. Our memorable skip trip, banquets and finally baccalaureate and commencement rounded out our high school years. As we cross the threshold into greater horizons beyond, we shall treasure the memories of these high school years. The knowl- edge acquired will serve as the foundation for our various walks of life.
