Senior Class History lt was only a few years ago that Fremont High School opened its doors to let in the excited and enthusiastic freshman class of 1952. Under the supervision of Miss Orr, our ninth grade sponsor, we cast our votes for class officers. Those chosen to lead us were Paul Johnson, president, Larry DeMars, vice-president, Gay Gerber, secre- tary, and Mary Zagers, treasurer. Our Student Council representatives were Pat Murphy, Phyllis Swanson, Larry Zandvliet and Judy Loomis. The freshman class made a big hit in the field of forensics. Mary Zagers placed first in declama- tions. We were also very proud of our two boys who made the varsity football team, Larry Zandvliet and Jim Gardner. The fall of 53 brought us into our sophomore year. Mr. Provines, Mr. Heerspink, Mrs. Adair and Mr. Warner advised us. To carry on the business of our class we elected Lee Hendrie, president, Case DeKryger, vice-president, Mary Zagers, secre- tary, and Pat Murphy, treasurer. To be sure of a strong hold in the Student Council we chose Phyllis Swanson, Carolyn Cos- grove, Alan Sackett and Bob Wolters as our repre- sentatives. The student body elected Diane Pugno secretary of the Student Council. Case and Christine DeKryger, sophomore candi- dates, were chosen King and Queen of the Carnival. Mary Zagers again displayed her speaking abil- ity and won a first in the declamation contest. Four sophomore boys represented us on the var- sity football team, Bob Wolters, Dave Smalligan, Larry Zandvliet and Larry DeMars. We started our iunior year with a bang choosing Alan Sackett for president, Paul Johnson for vice- president, Christine DeKryger for secretary and Diane Pugno for treasurer. The iunior class more than carried their load in student government. Those chosen by the class were Janet Maynard, Gordon Witte, Lee Hendrie, and Larry DeMars. Case DeKryger was elected treasurer by the student body and Mary Zagers was elected secretary. Diane Pugno served as a mem- ber of the cabinet. This was a big year for us in athletics also. Bob Wolters was chosen one of the top five players on the All Ken-New-Wa basketball team. Under the capable direction of Mr. Fosheim we gave our iunior play, Room For One More, which was a smash hit. Our class was very proud when Ron Andrzeiew- ski won first place in our local oration contest. Phil Holcomb and Diane Pugno, our iunior can- didates, were chosen King and Queen of the car- nival. In the spring we had the honor of putting on the Junior-Senior banquet. Our sponsors, Mr. Fosheim, Miss Randall, Mr. Rottschaffer, Mr. Durkee, and Miss Sayles assisted us with our theme and the program entitled, Neptune's Court. ln the fall of our most eventful year we elected Lee Hendrie, president, Pat Montague, vice-presi- dent, Francis Karnamaat, secretary, and Bob Wol- ters, treasurer. Our senior sponsors were Mr. Cooper, Mr. Kraai, Mr. Adair, Miss VanHorn and Miss Elmquest. Mary Beth Fox, John Sherman and Paul Johnson were elected to represent our class in the Student Council. Pat Johnson also served as a representa- tive while one of our members was ill. Gordon Witte, Phyllis Swanson, Janet Maynard, Keith Rob- ertson, and Lee Hendrie comprised the cabinet. Denny Ford and Mary Zagers gave a lot of time and effort to the council also. Diane Pugno was elected president of the council and Case DeKryger was elected vice-president. Another big event was the Homecoming, which Pat Johnson presided over as Queen. The care- fully planned program was cancelled but Pat was presented her crown at half-time during a cold wet blizzard! We were all behind the boys who represented us in athletics. The boys were outstanding on the gridiron, on the basketball floor, on the track, and on the baseball field. Two girls who have rooted for them at every game, are our two varsity cheerleaders, Sally Tanis and Shirley Kubicek. ln April the senior class presented the three-act comedy, Don't Take My Penny. We all appreci- ated the energy and time Miss Elmquest, our direc- tor, gave to make our play a big success. In the spring our calendar of events was filled. The Junior-Senior banquet and the Honor Banquet were memorable occurrences on our calendar. The climax of the year brought our unforgetful skip- trip to Chicago. Baccalaureate and Commencement services drew to a close our high school careers, but wherever we go, or whatever we may be, the senior class of '55 will never forget Fremont High School and all the students and teachers who have made our high school days the happiest days of our lives.- I7
