Han- sen, who, by his activity, has proved himself to be an asset to Fremont and Nebraska. l.ocally he capably administers the affairs of Nebraska's seventh largest school system and directly supervises Freinont's Aircraft Sheetmetal School, which has prepared and continues to train many persons for the air- craft industry. Maintaining a sincere interest in young people by serving as Y. M. C. A. vice-president and Boy Scout leadership training director, Mr. Hansen this year also geared the Fremont Public Schools to the vital tasks of aiding the Red Cross, collect- ing scrap, and issuing ration books. Two examples indicate his stature as a schoolman in Nebraska. Last October over 3.000 teachers showed what they thought of liremont's superintendent by electing l1in1 District 2 president of the Nebraska State Education Association. lint this is not the only responsible position which has come Mr. l-lansen's way. As state chairman of the l'ublic Relations and Legislative Committee, he works untiringly for the passage of state laws designed to improve every educational system in Nebraska. Nor are the six men working with Mr. Han- sen any less industrious. In fact, this na- tion's wealth would be more rapidly increas- ed if every eomnmnity had a group of 1nen Page T11 irfecn as skilled in encouraging the profit-sharing plan as the Fremont Board of Education is. Adjusting local schools to the war program was something done by them immediately, but wisely and efficiently. Through intensive study and thought, these six men and their superintendent also solved problems involv- ing rising costs, priorities for necessary sup- plies, and a growing shortage of capable teachers. The soundness of their policies has been demonstrated during the past nine months. Furthermore each member kept abreast of the newest educational trends by belonging to the State School Boards Association. But the duties of these men were not completed when their monthly meeting was over, for all served on one or more essential commit- tees dealing with school problems. Each one also did community service. Since all were vitally interested in the war effort, all assisted in the VVar Loan, scrap, and Red Cross drives. Yes, the Board of Education has met the needs of Fremont's schools as interpreted by the teaching staff, the com- . .. .... munity, and the student body. Of them it may be said that they have com pleted a big job in a supreme fashion.
