VOYAGEUR ’71 FREEPORT HIGH SCHOOL FREEPORT, NEW YORK Activities — 20 Sports — 58 Faculty — 82 Underclassmen — 110 Seniors — 138 Advertising — 202 Go placidly amid the noise haste, remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly clearly; and listen to others, even the dull ignorant; they too have their story. A void loud aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain bitter; for always there will be greater lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive Jor high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity disenchantment it is perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. With all its sham, drudgery broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. The committee, which met every Thursday and was run on a voluntary basis, was the driving force in the establishment of an Assembly Program, the formation of a Student Power workshop, and an attempt to obtain open study halls. One of the major achievements for the group was the “Student Unity Day.” an all day workshop of rap sessions, films, and entertainment, which was held in Freeport High School on February 5. The prevailing success of this group, where others like it have failed, was due to the determination. dedication and patience of its members and the faithful and knowledgeable guidance of Mrs. Wright. 29 KEY CLUB left to right: K. The two Honor Society “Film of the Week Series” offered students free admission to documentaries, dramas, and gimmick flicks; once a week after school. The “Honor Society Newsletter”, also founded this year, published analytical essays by the members. Honor Society members also participated in tutoring programs in and out of the high school. The Assembly Program Plan, a product of the newly formed Student-Faculty Committee, permitted students to design assembly programs created by students for students. This plan symbolized a giant step by the school administration in encouraging student involvement in planning school activities and hoped to give the students responsibility which would broaden their educational development. The successful results warranted this trust. Arnic and Richie perform at folk concert. George Gollin protests the draft in a scene from We Bombed in New Haven.
