Superintendent of SchoolA Dr. Dodd and daughter DR. JOHN W. DODD is known to every boy and girl in the Freeport school system. From the time we started in kindergarten until the final year, this leader in education has made it a practice to visit all the classrooms in every school from time to time. How well we remember his enthusiastic greetings, his words of praise and his appreciation of our efforts. His dynamic personality and kindly manner have made each one of us feel that he is a friend as well as an educator. The wise execution of the demanding job he holds as superintendent of our large school system has earned him a place of distinction and importance in our community. Dr. Dodd is an outstanding example of a person who has done his utmost to further the ideal of the promotion of international good will and understanding. His work in both civic, religious, and educational programs has earned him this distinction. The people of Freeport, as well as the students and faculty, may be very satisfied and proud of our Superintendent for all that he has done to help the young people. 9

MR. J. WESLEY SOUTHARD MR. SOUTHARD, INGE. AND HEE JOON Principal CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CLASS OF 1956 You, as a class, are living in a revolutionary period of history. You have seen the atom harnessed, the hydrogen bomb invented, and large parts of the world revolting against imperialist rule. You have seen cooperative action by men struggling to create a world community and other men trying to understand human relations and human societies. Your task, as young men and women, is to prepare yourselves today and tomorrow to be world-minded citizens. Centuries ago in a troubled world the words, . . and now abideth faith, hope, and charity . . challenged and encouraged men to move ahead. You, too, can find direction and encouragement in these words. Have faith in the ideal of freedom that 10 brings with it man's right to be his own master; have faith in the right of all humans to live in peace and security, free from war and want. Have hope based on a deep appreciation and love of your own land and a knowledge of its tremendous potential; have hope that the basic similarities of all men will enable them to minimize their differences and will point the way toward cooperation. Have charity by developing an attitude of tolerance in feeling and opinion born of a deep seated respect for the individual; have charity by keeping abreast of the contemporary world scene as a participant as well as a spectator. Good luck and God bless each member of the Class of 1956. J. WESLEY SOUTHARD, Principal Freeport Jr.-Sr. High School
