DEDICATION j ITH deepest appreciation, we, (lie class of 1952, dedicate this yearbook to Martin M. Mansperger. We might well speak of his scholarly attributes, his wisdom, his outstanding accomplishments in the field of education, his moral courage, his sincerity, and his humor, but they are all climaxed by our true affection for him. He has always striven for better pupil-teacher relationships and has endeavored to equip every Freeport student with the essentials of solid scholarship and good citizenship. So we say, “thank you, Mr. Mansperger,” and wish you many happy years “down on the farm.”

FOREWORD jD ECAUSE of Mr. Mansperger’s retirement to farm-life in West Virginia and because farming has always been an essential part of our American way of life, we have decided to use as the theme for our 1952 Voyageur, “Down on the Farm!”

Mr. Mansperger graduated from Ohio State University in June. 1921, after working his way through college. He was married one week after uwErigraduation to Lois Genevieve Clingan of Mansfield, Ohio. His first job jf WJ was as organizer of the Mansfield summer playgrounds. He did advanced graduate work at the University of Chicago and in 1931 received the Master of Arts degree from Teachers’ College. Columbia University. The fall of 1921 found him principal of the high school in Barnesville, Ohio, with his wife as his secretary. In the spring of 1922 lie was offered a job in a larger high school in Urbana, Ohio. From there lie went on to a high school of 1500 students in the city of Zanesville, Ohio, where he remained from 1923 to 1927. From 1927 to 1929 he was Supervising Principal at Mountain Lakes, New Jersey. In 1929 Mr. Mansperger accepted the prineipalship of Freeport High School. While in Ohio Mr. Mansperger had been a member of the State Athletic Board. President of the kiwanis Club, and Commander of the American Legion of Zanesville. During the two years in New Jersey lie was affiliated with the State Council of Religious Education. After coming to Nassau he became President of the Nassau County Council of Religious Education, a member of the Official Board of tin Methodist Church. Superintendent of the Methodist Sunday School for several years, and a member of the Board of Education of ♦lie Methodist Church. He is the founder and organizer of the Mansperger Families. Inc., a genealogical group tracing their families hack to early American and German ancestors. In 1939 a book on the Mansperger families was published by Mr. Mansperger. '
