Miss NELL CLARK Miss Nell Clark, looking at you from this page, has properties of magic. She reminds you, hun- dreds of you who had the privilege of being her pupils, of happy days spent in her classes and in her homeroom. Remembrances of percentage problems, compound interest, fractions-inter- spersed with an atmosphere of kindliness and intellectual stimulation-floods through your mind to bring back pictures forgotten. Many others of you, her friends, are reminded of the flowers she distributes so freely, of the jars of home-made strawberry jam, of fluffy, deli- cious rolls sent in for housewarming and heart- warming. Her educational training and experience too have been full and rich. She received her first professional training at Oneonta State Teachers' College. She earned her B. S. at New York Uni- 15 versity. Then to keep supplementing her knowl- edge she took courses at many other institutions: Albany State College, Columbia University, and Oswego State Teachers' College. Boys and girls, men and women from many communities know her, for she taught in Corinth, in Glens Falls, and in Schoharie before coming to Freeport to help youngsters get some good American educa- tion-'ritbmetic primarily, but readin', 'ritin,, and livin', too. l This June, Miss Nell Clark is retiring from her classroom duties in Freeport High, but she's going to continue being a very busy lady. She plans to continue her work in the Red Cross, where, as everyone knows, she has given freely of her time, her energy, and her humanitarian spirit. At home she will be using her green fingers in the Clark flower garden when she is not sewing on some creation or baking some other creation. During vacation, there are plans for some traveling. Thus Miss Clark, who to many of us symbolizes the enduring qualities of kindness, loyalty, goodness-the real salt of the earth-is going to have a wonderful time in her fmis-namedl retirement. So we of the Voyageur staff, speaking for everyone who knows her, wish her much joy and happiness, and voice sincere appreciation for all the good things she has brought to Freeport and the educational system.
