Greetings to the Class of 1941.9 Congratulations on an excellent record of achievement! The theme of your year book- Our Youth in Our Community-challenges thought and imagination. Youth, splendid in mentality, poise, and char- acter, is the most prized possession of any com- munity. A school is a living, feeling, growing spirit, drawing life from the daily triumphs of boys and girls and friendly teachers and un- folding a personality all its own. F. H. S. today is you, it grows with youg what you do, it does, its success is measured by your success. Class of 1949, you have been cooperative in your atti- tude, constructive in your influence, serious in your work, and responsible to the duties of school citizenship. Our town is a progressive and rapidly grow- ing community. Our schools have grown with the community they serve. Its citizens, prompt- ed by high ideals and worthy purposes, have supported our schools liberally as their most effective means of service for training future citizens. The tomorrow of our town belongs to you, the youth of today. Good citizenship springs from the same habits of active group DR. JOHN W. Donn participation which you have practiced in high school. As you begin the march down the years of adult life, may you be inspired by the same ideals and purposes which have led to success in high school. May you be as deeply sensible to the great tasks which lie ahead as you have been to those of the presentg may you continue your talent and leadership for the advancement of our town, our state, and our nation. Best wishes to each member of the Class of 1949. J OHN W. Donn Superintendent of Schools

Mn. MAxmN M. Mawsmsncrn Memories Thanks for the Memories might well become the theme song of the Class of 1949. Since we are inclined to forget the disagreeable experi- ences of life and prone to remember those ex- periences which have brought us the greatest satisfaction and happiness, memories of high school days become the most precious and prized possessions of all who graduate from Freeport High School. In a talk to high school students, the merchant prince of America, the late Marshall Field of Chicago, once listed the following twelve things worth rememberingnz the value of time, the success of perseverance, the pleasure of work- ing, the dignity of simplicity, the worth of char- acter, the power of kindness, the influence of ex- ample, the obligation of duty, the wisdom of economy, the virtue of patience, the improve- ment of talent, the joy of originating. As you leave your Alma Mater, you will carry with you memories which will endure: Memories of fellow students who by their friendship and loyalty helped you better to understand and appreciate the infinite worth of character, the power and influence of kind- ness, your obligation to duty, and the impor- tance of the improvement of your God-given talents, Memories of teachers why by training, ex- perience, and personal example, taught you the value of time, the pleasure in hard work, the joy in creating, the virtue of patience, and the success which can only come to those who per- severe, Memories of faithful and loyal parents who have stood by you from birth, who have shared your joys, your thrills of accomplishment, and each and every noble ambition, and from whom you have learned the worth and dignity of simple things. Learn how to cherish your memories. They will inspire you while young, they will strength- en and encourage you in middle life, and in old age they will comfort you and bless you. On Commencement Day, pause for a moment, think of your happy days in Freeport High School, and thank Cod for your memories. MARTIN M. MANSPERGI-:R Principal
