LESS' fe -55-'I I l fb I I lllllilll HDDUFIL 1111111 SENIOR CLASS HISTORY The Class of '29, in September, 1924, was as a ship starting on a long, hard, voyage across the sea of learning and now, after four years of prepara- tion, we are ready to set sail on the perilous sea of life. Gur class, the largest Freshman Class to date, won honor, even in its first year. Dubsy Hansen, George Harmer and Ben Minton represented us afield: Elizabeth Vtfetmore, Harry Ehrich and DeForest Ely, our class president, were outstanding in the class-room, and our successful tea-dance evoked the pride of all. A whole year of experience helped us to continue the good work in our Sophomore year. Gur dance was again a success and, while our classmates continued to win laurels on the gridiron and on the diamond as well as on the court, our class still maintained a scholastic standing far above the average. Karl Friedman was president of our class during that year, and needless to say, it was a very successful year under his able direction. As sedate Juniors, we left behind us that boisterous attitude which Sophomores think becomes them but we, of course, continued to uphold the honor and traditions of our class aneld as well as socially. The great social event was the Junior Pageant and Junior Dance. Our pageant was directed by Miss Benedict and it was as unique as it was beautiful. There were three acts: the nrst representing May Day centuries ago, the second, during the colonial period and the third, that of the present. Doris Holske was chosen May Queen and Einar Lehtonen, king. It was indeed a success, as was the dance which followed. However, we sophisticated Juniors soon became the dignified Seniors. Reviewing the past three years, we find among our representatives in various activities: George Harmer, Joe Hughes, Allan Cruickshank, Karl Fried- man and Irving Franklin on the football team, Ben Minton, and Donald Haig on the baseball team, Allan Cruickshank, Bill Colman, and Karl Friedman on the track team, Ronny,' Hornbeck, George Forbes and Karl Friedman on the basketball teamg Burdette Chevallier, Bill Colman, Joe Hughes and Allan Cruickshank on the swimming team, and Dubsy Hansen in our three major sports, baseball, basketball and football, Bob1' Hanse, editor-in-chief of the Studentg Einar Lehtonen, editor-in-chief of the Year Book g Betty Wetmore, Garry Goetchius, and DeForest Ely on the G. G. Council, Dorothv Strittmatter, Natalie Stanislaw, Freda Pisciotta and Evelyn Lockwood iii dramaticsg and Walter Blaile, Sol Pearlmutter and Freda Pisciotta in music. It seems only a short time ago that we entered this high school as fright- ened Freshmen. Yet we have been molded carefully by able hands and are about to leave as mighty Seniors. VVe, the Senior Class of '29, realize that much of the success we have at- tained has been due to the unceasing efforts of Miss Benedict, our facultv adviser, and we wish to thank her for the aid she has given in guiding ou-r ship toward our desired goal, Success. 24
