Baccalaureate Service Officiated By Reverend Tschetter Leading the events that concluded with gradua- tion, was an afternoon dedicated to the individual achievements of the student body known as Awards Day. In conjunction with the presentation of the awards, the seniors read the class facts, class his- tory, class poem, and the class will, all written and originated by members of the honored class. Approximately 213 of the class received awards for their individual achievement. At five o'clock that evening, the senior class left the school for Sioux Falls and a skip evening. The class and their four advisors ate a smor asbord meal at the Norman- 8 dy, and then divided to see two movies. After a most enjoyable evening, the bus ride home ended the day of May 19, a day to be remembered. Baccalaureate services for the graduating class of 1971 were held on the following Sunday, May 23. The services were conducted by the Reverend Peter Tschetter of the Neu Hutterthal Church. Reverend Tschetter told the class of thirty seniors about var- ious men throughout the history who dared to be different and were called fools, but in the end con- tributed greatly to humanity and the development of our world. Pictured ABOVE RIGI-IT, Linda Rechnagel presented a speech as one of the graduating class. BELOW LEFT, Marcus Preheim received his diploma from Mr. Ron Bennettg and Monica Schrag and Greg Kleinsasser, RIGHT, led the graduating class to the stage.

Thirty Seniors Receive Diplomas The big night for the 1971 graduating class of Freeman High School came on May 24. Commencement exercises were held for thirty seniors in the high school gym with six seniors giving the addresses. Carol Hansen, Linda Rechnagel, jackie Stahl, Tom Villa, Rita Wipf, and Holly Wrenn spoke on various topics such as tradition, an outlook for the future, use of talents, and living every day of our lives fullly. One stu- dent also thanked the community, teachers, and parents for their help and support. Among the graduating seniors were eight honor society students. Don Penner was named the top ranking student and Burnell Glanzer was the second highest ranking. Mr. Bennett announced on stage that the S300 Honor Society Scholarship would be divided between Burnell Glanzer and jackie Stahl for their outstanding leadership and service. The stage was decorated in lavender and yellow, the class colors. The class motto was hung at the back of the stage, Human- ity with all it's fears, With'all it's hope of future years, Is hanging breathless on our fate . AT TOP LEFT, Tom Villa, student speaker, addresses the Commencement audience. TOP RIGHT, Donald Schamber is con- gratulated by Barb Tschetter. AT LEFT, the seniors and some friends offer their tearful congratulations and goodbyes.
