The F-Club, an elite athletic group of Free- man High School, was very active this year. A- long with the FHA they helped to sponsor a Sweethearts Ball with music by the Odyssey. New members, Todd Graber, Dan Herrboldt, Charles Aman, Don Herman, John Stark, John Weier, Jerry Ortman, and Tim Villa, were initi- ated on May 17 by having to spend the entire day humorously attired. To become a member there are certain requirements to be met, such as: eight quarters of varsity football, sixteen quarters of of varsity basketball, three points at any invita- tional track meet, or eighteen points throughout the wrestling season, and student managers must manage two sports. F-Club Initiates New Members Jarvis Heckenlaible and Burnell Glanzer, pictur- ed at LEFT, were Freeman High School's two part- icipating representatives at the Freeman Academy Invitational Track Meet and at the Lennox Invita- tional. Freeman never placed with team points be- cause it takes four runners and Burnell, Jarvis, and Joey Villa were the only boys involved in cross- country track this year for it is still not organized at Freeman. Burnell won the Freeman Academy Invitational and placed third at the Lennox meet. On October 30, 1970, Burnell Glanzer and Joey Villa traveled to Brookings to run in the State Cross- Country meet on the Brookings Municipal Golf Course. With over two hundred athletes running the 2. 2 mile course, Burnell Glanzer placed seventh and Joey Villa a respectable fifty-two. Ron Bennett was the cross-country coach for the boys and their source of transportation.

Teacher Aides Demonstrate Eagerness to Assist Faculty Freeman High School's teacher aides have been a valuable asset to the system throughout the year. The students perform many time consuming chores for the var- ious teachers. Some of the aides corrected tests or typed them along with numberous work sheets and other classroom handouts. The more technical minded students lent their skills in the department of audio- visual equipment in the operation of cassett tape recorders, overhead projectors, film projectors and closed circuit television camera. The physical education teachers kept their helpers busy by having them supervise games of basketball, soccer, soft- ball and recording statistics for physical fimess tests. Monitoring classrooms for grade teach- ers took a student with a special kind of patience. Rick Preheim, TOP LEFT, moni- tors one of the grade rooms. The Pep Club, which this year increased its membership by 100lXs from last year, is pictured at LEFT. Pep Club Sponsors Poster Contest This year the Pep Club sponsored a pep poster contest. The posters, all larger than 6x1O, were hung in the gym for judging. The judges were sel- ected from the faculty and awarded the first prize of three dollars to Sandra Barta, Carol Hansen, Linda Rechnagel, and Rita Wipf for their poster When the Going Gets Tough the Tough Get Going made of white vinyl leather and pink foil. Second and third prizes of two dollars and one dollar were a- warded to the A team cheerleaders, Garnet Ger- ing and Margo Graber, respectively. The Pep Club made maroon stop signs with the caption Flyers Don't Stop for the observance of Maroon and White Day. The basketball players wore shirt banners with their names and Flyers inscribed on them. Over half of the clubs members lettered this year. To letter one must accumulate SOM of all the possible points. Two points were earned for attend- ance at each wrestling match and away basketball and football games. Home football and basketball games accounted for one point. The clubs' new outfits of maroon pant skirts and vests worn with a white top were mandatory attire for all home wrestling and basketball games. The outfits were also worn to all the tournaments.
