The 70-71 basketball season started rather slow for the Flyers but finished strong, winning four out of their last six games. One of the main highlights of the season was coming home with the consolation trophy from the District 21 Tournament. ABOVE is the varsity basketball team. FRONT: Man- ager Randy Wipf, Coach Ron Bennett, Manager Lynn Mendel. BACK: Burnell Glanzer, Ted Pidde, john Weier, Dan Herrboldt, Gregg Graber, Rick Preheim, Mike Walter, Greg Kleinsasser, Jarvis I-Ieckenlaible, joey Villa, Charles Aman, Bob Wollzmann. Flyers Take Third in District RIGHT: Burnell Glanzer was chosen All-Conference player. Burnell led Freeman with total points and was team captain. This years varsity wrestling squad consisted of two Graber, Tim Villa, Randy Barta, David EPP, Glen freshmen, four sophomores, five juniors, and one Preheim. BACK: Lynn Ulmer, Marlin Holzwarth, Don senior. With six of last years varsity squad returning Hansen, Gary Miller, Kelly Mutchelknaus, Kelly the team completed the season with a 7 win-5 loss Kaufman. record. The squad was FRONT: Kenny Andersen, Todd Four Wrestlers Are All-Conference This year Wrestling was divided into A and B for the first time and the District Tournaments were eliminated. The Region III Tournament held at Wagner saw David Epp place first, Don Hansen second, and Marlin Holz- warth and Randy Barta fourth. These Flyers advanced to the state tournament held at Mitchell where Don Hansen placed fourth in the state for his weight class. During the year awards were given for the fastest pin, the most pins and the most takedowns. Those receiving trophies for the honors were David Epp with a pin in six- teen secondsg he also received the most pins numbering fifteen. David Epp and Randy Barta tied for the most takedowns at nineteen apiece.
