Seven School Records Are Broken Despite unfavorable running conditions, Coach Don Diede's trackmen brought FHS one of the most successful track seasons in the history of the school. A big factor was that the entire squad returned plus the addition of a large group of hard working freshmen. During the season the boys attended an average of two track meets a week. There were many highlights for the Flyers as a team and as individuals--from nearly upsetting Salem in the Salem Relays, to placing second in the conference, and finish- ing fourth in the region. Freeman also earned points at the larger track meets in Vermillion, Hurley, Tyndall, and at the state track meet in Rapid City. At the end of the season the boys had earned 44 tro- phies for breaking records and standards, surpassing last year's team total of eight trophies. School records that fell are the 2 mile relay, mile relay, mile run, S80 yard relay, 440 yard relay, 220 yard dash, and frosh shot put. Qualifying for the state track meet were, LEFT: joe Villa--2 mile run, Burnell Glanzer--mile run, Greg Kleinsasser--high jump, Allen Weier--880 yard dash, and Tom Villa--440 yard dash.
