Through eliminations held October 22, four de- clarn students were selected to compete in the district contest at Marion a week la- ter. They were: Terry Walter poetry, Marilyn Stahl--Hu.m- orous, Rita Wipf--dramatic, George Villa--oratory. Rita won a superior rating with her reading, Tide Pool , and advanced to the region- al contest at Augustana Col- lege and received an excel- lent rating. Under the advisorship of Renee Huenemann, declam consisted of twelve students shown at left. They are, BACK: joan Marie Wipf, Ar- lene Kleinsasser. THIRD: julie Svartoien, Marilyn Stahl. .Ai Large Crowd Enjoys Parade The FHS Homecoming Par- ade was held Friday afternoon, October 4. The week was spent float-building by all classes and other organizations. Elementary division was topped by the seventh graders' Squeeze-Em and St. Paul's Lutheran School took second with Stew the Irish . BELOW LEFT director Mrs. Betty Mudder and a group of band members are relaxing be- fore lining up to march in the , parade. That evening the Flyers were defeated by the Montrose 1 Irish, but the game was credited a forfeit. Following the game, music for the Homecoming dance was provided by the Steel Blue .

Student council officers are: Phil Ries--vice president, Tom Villa-- treasurer, Ted Hofer--student body president, Karon Uecker-- secretary. The advisor for the council is Ron Bennett. Student Council Sells Flyer Finders The student council represents all classes and organizations of the school. Its first function was to organize home- coming activities, including routing the parade and sponsoring a dance after the homecoming game. The council then sold Flyer Finders , booklets containing names, addresses, and tele- phone numbers of the students and fa- culty. They also raised money to pm'- chase an AM-FM radio to play in study halls. The group ran some concession stands at home games. At the school Christmas party, the council provided lunch after the entertainment. The student council is BACK: Ted Hofer, Rose Hoff, Karon Uecker, Rod Ander- son, Phil Ries. THIRD: Tom Villa, june Kleinsasser, Barb Uecker. SE- COND: Rhonda Stewart, Sally Jorgen- sen, Randy Barta. FRONT: Charles Aman, Denise Mendel.
