They were active in declam, debate, music, and sports. The continuation of English and science were re- quired courses for the 10th grade. Biology was learned through the study of genetics, the human body, and dissecting. Literature, speeches, and research themes were the highlights of the English II class. Other courses involving the sophomores were: In- dustrial Arts I and II, world history, German I and II, geometry, driver's education, physical education, and Typing I. RIGHT: Rita Anderson, DeVandolyn Schamber, Teresa Brucklacher, and Sally Jorgensen are being timed for speed and accuracy in Typing I class. 21

LEFT: The Algebra I class works at the blackboard daily to help the student better understand the course and find his mistakes. In connection with the freshman c1ass's study in earth science, the class went on a field trip to Milltown. There they found various rocks and fossils. The class also went to the movie, Oliver! , which correlated with their study of Charles Dickens in English I. Required courses for the freshmen are: English I, Algebra I, earth science, and physical education. Home Economics I and Industrial Arts I are also studied. The freshmen participate widely in extracurricular activities including band, chorus, football, basketball, wrestling, and track. Out of forty students, thirteen entered Freeman I-Iigh School from rural schools, seven from St. Paul's Lutheran Day School, and twenty formerly attended Freeman Grade School.
