Many home Mlsslonarxes have been sent out from W1dner Townshmp The leaders of thrs llttle communlty whlch consrsts of about one sxxth of the townshrp are all church mlnded people The f1rst school IH Wldner TOWHSh1p opened 1n 1808 on the land of John Wldner One of the rooms of the home of John Wldner was used as a school room In the year 1810 when the Marlah Creek Church was bullt It was also used as a school and the puplls who had prevlously attended school at the J hn Wldner home now went to school at the Marlah Creek Church Some years later a one room log schoolbu1ld1ng was erected Thls school bu1ld1ng had no wlndows of glass but long sheets of greased paper were nalled over the open1ngs thls was the only means of llght that thls school had At one end of the room was a large open flreplace In order to keep warm the scholars sat upon a large log placed 1n front of the frreplace The flrst school bulldlng that was bullt ln Freelandvmlle was a frame school In 1874 a three room two story brlck bulldlng was erected where the present school 1s now located Th1s bu1ld1ng was soon out grown and no longer served 1ts purpose In 1912 a new bulldlng was erected followed by the add1t1on of a gymnasrum and aud1tor1um 1n 1926 By maklng numerous 1nter1or Lmprovements through the years th1s school stlll meets the needs of the students of Wmdner TOWHSh1p The currmculum also has steadxly broadened to the place that lt now glves baslc pre paratlon 1n almost all f1elds After the Freshman year there are avallable to students subject cholces that enable them to concentrate on and spec1al1ze 1n the fmeld of thelr cholce In commerce we offer two years of typlng bookkeeplng and shorthand Four years of Engllsh fou years of mathematlcs courses ln chemlstry and physlcs three years of soclal studles complete courses IH home economlcs and agr1culture fwlth shop tra1n1ngl dr1ver tralnlng physlcal educatlon and speclal act1v1t1es ln muslc are all avallable May the progresswe and far slghted sp1r1t of men l1ke Dr Freeland and John W1dner prevall throughout the future to keep our townshlp a lawabldrng God fearlng and energetlc community 1 ' 1 ' - . 1 1 . .
