1961-June 1977 September 1977 — to present ILVER CELEBRATION 1 986 -8 7 Public Libraries of Saginaw Hoyt Main Library 505 Janes St. Saginaw, MI 48607 VOLUME XXV | ADVISORS ... MR. AND MRS. PERRY EDITORS ... KAY DUNKER CHRIS GAUMER Ее Forward Freeland High School Yearbook has been in existence for 25 years. This year’s yearbook staff has chosen to celebrate this event throughout our yearbook. The logo used on the cover and many of the pages was designed especially for this volume. The book title, “Silver Cele- bration”, depicts the 25th anniversary of our yearbook. The theme of the book is carried out by the pictures and page titles. During these past 25 years, many things at Freeland High School have changed while some have remained the same. The school has moved from one building to anoth- er. Some new faces in the staff have appeared, but some old faces remain. Different students have crowded the hallways, yet they somehow never change. The goal to graduate remains the same. Changes have happened in the past, they are happen- ing in the present, and will continue to happen in the future. This year in sports, the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Philadelphia Flyers to win the Stanley Cup in hockey. In baseball, the New York Mets conquered the Boston Red Sox to win the World Series. The New York Giants soundly demolished the Denver Broncos to win Superbowl XXI. In the “Fight of the Century”, Sugar Ray Leonard came out of retirement to box Marvelous Marvin Hagler for the World Middleweight Title. Alysheba was this year’s winner of the Kentucky Derby. He went on to compete in and won the Preakness but was deprived of the five million dollar Triple Crown winnings when he lost the Belmont Stakes. After losing the America’s Cup last time to Australia, the Stars and Stripes sailed through to beat the Kookaburra III. The American title was returned home. Locally, the Michigan Wolverines were overpowered as the Arizona Sundevils went on to win the Rose Bowl. The Pistons made it to the semi-finals of the Eastern Conference where they were beaten by the Boston Celtics in a close 4-3 series. The Detroit Redwings made it to the final four but were defeated by the Edmonton Oilers in NHL action. The war on drugs got a little tougher this year, especially in the sports world. Brian “Boz” Bosworth of the Oklahoma Sooners was suspended from the Orange Bowl for use of steroids. Len Bias died of an overdose of cocaine after he was picked by the Boston Celtics. This was a major upset in the basketball world. @ Lj = = = Bd е ROUGH LAYOUT | i f i i H ee calling cards, letterheads, telephone directory art and ot acceptable. lame of School EEN irm Name (please print) ity State КО SIZE TYPE OF AD IR STAFF USE ONLY ру Веса | ]Proof О.К. мо Rec'd (| | ] Payment Rec'd | invoice Sent Prepared Staff Rep Signature | a PRIGINAL TO SCHOOL CARBON |.
