The home- coming game this year was played against Breckenridge High School, and we were vic- torious with a score of 12-6. 1981-82 Homecoming Court: Seniors — Becky Niederquil, Queen Dawn Langley, Jill Miller. Juniors — Bonnie Burback, Kelly Miller. Sophomores — Martha Laviolette, Melissa Kasper. Freshman — Jennifer Wheeker, Leah Consbruck. The 1981-82 school year was filled with many exciting Band activities. The marching band performed at all home games, the Zilwaukee festival parade, and MacDonald's grand opening in Freeland. The highlight of the season was being the feature band at a Northwood Institute football game. The Concert band had it's finest year yet by taking straight first division ratings at district festival compition and state festival compition. The band also performed at all home basketball games. Many awards were given this year. William Beson received the Marching Falcon award and the John Phillip Sousa award. John Dinsmoore received the Rook- ie of the Year award. Karen Egan, Kelly Thompson, and Jim White received first division ratings at the state level Solo Ensemble. Jim White was recognized as one of the top 100 High School musicians in the state. Lisa Fletcher led the band very skillfully as the 1981-82 Drum Major. Jim White won the honor of being Drum Major for the 1982-83 season. The team was the CML Champions for the second season in a row. Five Falcon Golfers earned All Conference honors. This years Varsity Football team was one of the best ever; finishing with a 7-2 overall record, and tied for second in the CML. Records that were set are most points in one season, 210 breaking the old records at 204. Freeland also gave up less points in a season which is 63 the old record was 64. Coach Hacker termed the season as being one game short of a CML Championship. Dunker. 37 The Freeland High School Basketball season was the most exciting time of the year for the students of Freeland High and for the whole Community of Freeland. The Team electrified huge crowds by defeating opponents and having one of it's finest seasons ever. The team was undefeated in regular season play by overcoming tough teams such as Breckenridge, St. Charles, and St. Pete's. The regular season record was 20 wins, O losses. The team then traveled to District play where they became District Champs by defeating Sanford-Meridian. Next came Regionals, in the first game Freeland defeated St. Pete's for the third straight time (an almost unbelievable feat.) Freeland lost the Regional Championship by 1 point to Lansing Catholic Central. Many of these players received various honors. Mitch Bohn, Steve Bohn, and John Ferens were all-conference choices. Brad Schuk- nucht and Rick Kovach were all-conference honor- able mentions. Mitch, Steve, and Brad were all- district choices. Steve Bohn was named most valuable player by his teammates. The team set a new school record for the most homeruns in a season with 25 this year. Tu PME 500% The 1981-82 Girls' Track Team includes: Front row (L to R) J. Niedzinski, M. Rose, M. Spauding, J. Niedzinski, J. Bishop, J. Anderson, K. Wagner, H. Vasold, B. DeNardo, C. Frawley. Back row (L to R) Coach Dan Craig, J. Russel, A. VanBuren, J. Hunter, P. Smith, K. Manor, J. Zdebski, K. Turner, L. Robinette, S. Wilkins, and Brent Albrecht, manager. The girl's track team was led by Pam Smith with 211% points, Jill Zdebski with 196%, Jill Niedzinski 157 points, Jennie Hunter with 152. The state meet qualifi- ers were: Jennie Hunter in the mile and two mile, Jill Zdebski in the 110 hurdles, Jill Niedzinski in the 100 meters, 200 meters, the 880 relay, and mile relay, and Holly Vasold in the 800. Other state qualifiers were: Anjanette VanBuren is the 800 and mile relays, Pam Smith in the 400, 800 relay and mile relay, and Jane Niedzinski in the 800 and mile relay.
