Aclmmistm time 'Education does not mean teaching people to know what they do not know. It means teach- ing them to behave as they do not behave .... lt is not teaching the youth of England the shapes of letters and the tricks of numbersg and then leaving them to turn their arithmetic to roguery, and their literature tolust. ltis, on the contrary, training them into the perfect exercise and kingly continence of their bodies and souls. John Ruskin Today these words are just as pertinent as they were in 19th century England. Freehold Regional High School graduates will be judged by their behavior rather than by what they know. How then does an educated man behave? Just as each piece of the puzzle has its place in the picture, just so does behavior from day to day establish the portrait of an educated person. The section headings in the LOG indicate very well what these behavior patterns should be: Seniors: Common Goal - As you graduate and enter college or the work-a-day world, will your behavior show your willingness to subordinate your own desires for the common good? Will you be the type of worker who is an asset to his employer? Underclassmen: Unity of Purpose- Do you as students show by your behavior that you have a real purpose here at Freehold Regional? Are you waiting to be sixteen years of age so that you can leave school, or do you comprehend the real purpose of your high school education? If you have the ability, will you continue your education beyond high school? Dr. Richard T. Beck Superintendent n

Mr Frank L. Weinheimer ASSISIQHI Superintendent Activities: Cooperative Achievement - Do you consider your school activities no less important than your studies? Do you contribute to your extra-curricular program? Do you give of your time and energy to work for your class and school? Athletics: Single Loyalty - Is your behavior on the athletic field for self glory or do you act for the good of the team and the glory of your school? Do you take pride in your team even if it is losing? Do you behave with good sportsmanship, being loyal to the real purpose of athletics? Finally, can you demonstrate that you are an educated person by answering yes to the following: 1. Does your behavior show that you respect all people regardless of race, religion, or color? 2. Does your behavior at all times satisfy your conscience, your church, your parents, your teachers? 3. Has your behavior at home, in school, and in the community improved because of your education? 4. As you go through life will your behavior be based on mature judgment rather than on merely a desire to follow the crowd? 5, As an adult will your behavior demonstrate that you have learned the importance of service to others? If you can answer yes to these questions, then you can be called, in America today or in John Ruskin's 19th century England, a truly educated man. May you always strive for these goals! Your Administration Dr Alton L. Lewis D1rector of Guidance
