Sea Girt Inn became transformed into a sea-side wonderland, The dance floor was de- corated with nets, shells, and fish. An anchor was suspended over the center of the dance floor, under which the dancers whirled. The theme of Ebb Tide is one which will remain a pleasant remembrance for all who attended. The scenery, constructed by the wood- working classes under the direction of Mr. Bentz, made the Pennsylvania Dutch atmosphere realistic and nat- ural. Behind the scenes, the students in charge of pro- perties held the key for the success ofa heart-warming play. Mr. Allen, aided by the student coaches, cannot be forgotten for a smooth running 'hit. Last, but not least, the actors deserve an extra hand because of the dialogue they had to grasp in order to realistically portray the characters. Many wonder- ful concerts and school programs had their origins in the Music Department. We owe much gratitude to all the students of the band, orchestra, and choir, and to their able leaders Mr. Lube and Miss Knodell The choir provides us with many enjoyable programs during the year. Their music seems to setthe moodfor each holiday. This was the result of hard work under the inspired leadership of Miss Kno- del. ln this group there were many outstanding soloists, ranging from rock-n'-roll specialists and popular crooners to angelic choirists. Their melodies and rhythms were smooth and clear. The orchestra this year was smaller than the band in number, but just as effective. Long weeks of practice, under the patient direction of Mr. Lube lcamera shyl, paid dividends when the orchestra presented its annual concert. Student Government Seekers of Cooperation, Responsibility and Fairness To be an organization noted for responsibility, cooperation, and fairness was the goal set by our Stu- dent Council. The members of this organization were able to achieve this goal by successfully sponsoring many activities in the school, and by aiding other act- ivities outside the school. Among the Council's notable achievements were the sponsoring of a foreign child and the providing of two scholarships for graduating members of the Senior Class. School spirit and the backing of school activities, both morally and financially, were the main concerns of the members of the Student Council this year. As elected representatives, they are to be commended for a job well done. 103111 Mllly Patricia Dreyer Millicent Craig President Vice-President Secretary x r i f V. f? f ,i??2A, , , if X ay .g ig g. As recipients of the Freehold Re- gional High School Merit Award, these students are recognized as symbolic of a person who is mature, considerate, cooperative, and has the qualities of outstanding citizenship and leadership. These persons have demonstrated, by their actions at all times, that they are ready and willing to assume responsi- bility as constructive, reliable, and respected citizens. These students did not accept this recognition asareward, but, rather, as a challenge to further these ideals. We hope that each and every one of themwill constantly strive to reach the goal for which the Free- hold Regional High School Merit Award was founded. In doing this, theywill not only achieve the highest honor that can come to a student of our high school, but their actions will lead to a finer school, a finer community, and a finer nation. Despite some serious setbacks in the early part of the season, includinglosses and injuries, the Colonials showed their true mettle, spirit, drive and sportsmanship which, when combined, enabled them to again repeat the records of other years. Freehold Regional finished the season with a record of five wins, three losses, and one tie. All losses were to teams in a high group. The team, under the capable director of Coach Schank, Coach Zuber, and Coach VanEtten, not only showed their spirit in the games but in practice as well. They became champions be- cause they stuck to their rigid training rules, and practiced hard to correct their early season faults. M12 ,sf MH 779' 'Q1 QM? A it 4 2 'Q Q ,K r - Y! The team was inexperienced and did not have the heighth that previous F,R,H,S. teams have had. Even the boys' great spirit and deter- mination could not overcome the weakness of inexperience. However, Freehold is looking forward to better years ahead as this year's team was composed primarily of Juniors and Sophomores. By the way, Pudder's long stretch gave the Colonials control of the ball. A 5 Hi' ,. . Though possessing considerable potentiality, the team was hampered by double sessions and a practice field obstructed by the construc- tion of the new addition. Highlights of the season were the several new championship meets. Among these were Bridgeton Relays and Monmouth - Ocean meet, which were added to the Colonial slate. The schedule opened on an optomistic note, with victories over Lakewood and Red Bank. However, as the season wore on, the Colonia1's hopes for retaining their Shore Conference crown never material- ized. Bright spots of the 1956 campaign were the fine performances of Emery Pudder, consistent point-getter in the shot put, and John Geisler's mile victory in the Central Jersey meet. rank , and George Evans. This they did by finishing the season in a three -way tie for first place with Red Bank and Leonardo. Freehold Regional defeated Red Bank easily. However, Leonardo became a different story. With due thanks to Lorenzo Stanford's pinch- hit home run with two outs and two strikes in the last inning of a two - two game, the Col- onials again brought home the Shore Conference Championship. 1956 F.R.H.S. 'Stand back boys. I've got the reach on you.' 'H y I thought you were on MY Q This year was the first year that F. R. H, S. offered an intramural program. In spite of a weak start, the program progressed nicely, and the activities set- tled down to a regular schedule. Games were scheduled to be played home- room against homeroom. Mr, Dunton, who is very interested in athletics, was in charge of the program. The intramural program is planned for those stu- dents whose limited athletic abilities would prevent them from being varsity athletes. It is well known that almost all high school people can benefit from competitive sports, provided they are pitted against people of equal ability, and that they will develop a keen, well-regulated, competitive spirit. We hope that the intramural sports program will be continued throughout future years, and that the range of both types of sports and participants will Continue to increase.
