There has never been a team that has left the field at the end of the season, that has been a better in- spiration to their successors. They were clean, steady players, everyone working for the good of his team and a star in the real sense of the word. The 1923 season opened with an easy victory over Severy, while Altamont was defeated in a like manner. Then came the mud and the Coffeyville tie. During this game Fredonia came within six inches of a touchdown while Coffeyville was never with- in our thirty-yard line. We then played a game but losing game with Caney and al- though we lost the game we won a name for our fair play. There has never been a team that has fought any harder for a victory and then to see iii snatched from their hands by fate as the Fredonia. team against Independence. We outplayed them in evegy phase of the game and had worked the ball to within three yards, of their goal when they intercepted a pass to a backfield man and ran ninety-seven yards for a touch- down, the only score of the game. Next we played a game in two inches of water, defeating Oswego by a large score. The sun came out for our next game and the Eureka team was humbled easily. Hhen came the Cherrywale battle and the fight spirit of the Fredonia team brought heme another victory. The night 'before the Neodesha game it snowed eight inches f nd the .esult of the game was more even than was expected, but we deieated our rivals and then closed our season with the mi-st honored team of our record of Fredonia teams.
