of S. GORDON CORTER Q O This 1940 'AHilltopper is dedicated to one Whom We all admire as a kindly friend, a wise counselor, and an outstanding teacher. Mr. Corter came to Fredonia High School when We of the class of 1940 were fresh- men to teach history, debate, and track. His genuine enthusiasm has always been an inspiration in all school activities, and the real Warmth of his encouragement has kindled a responsive zeal for accomplishment on the part of those students With Whom he has come in contact. Be- cause Mr. Corter has so Won the affection of the members of the class of 1940, We dedicate our I-Iilltopper to him With our best Wishes for a long and happy career in F. H. S.

ll or ci During the course of the day the sun in its path across the skies sees many events. Like the sun, We of the staff have seen many happenings dur- ing the year. Some of these will long be remembered: others will soon be forgotten, and still others, although not in themselves memo- rable, are, we feel, Worthy of a place in our year book. In the presentation of our 1940 Hilltopper we, the staff, Wish to ac- knowledge our sincere appreciation for the Wholehearted cooperation which We have received from both the faculty and the entire student body. This cooperation Which is characteristic of our high school is a prominent factor not only in making our book a success but also in making our year as members of the l-lilltopper Staff a pleasurable memory. This year the staff has chosen the theme, Meet Fredonia, so that in the years to come When you glance through the l940 Hilltopper, you will be reminded of the School on the Hill at Work, at study, and at play. More especially our theme will remind you of the town and the people who make our Alma Mater possible. lf this remem- brance can in any Way make your life a little happier, our book has been a success.
