Coach Hal Moser was in charge of this group and its activities. The council was a very busy organization. They ran a complete inter-school athletic program, beginning with a touch football tournament in the fall, basketball intramurals in the winter, and ending with track events and softball in the spring. Members of the Recreational Council drew up and supervised the tournaments, refereed, scored, and timed games. They also limed off playing fields and did odd jobs for the athletic depart- ment. The council was a select group of boys, being chosen for their scholastic merits and interest in athletics. LEADERS IN SPORTS 'lihe big iob of handling county meets, coaching teams, and supervising the officiating at various types of games and intramural tournaments throughout the year was handled by the girls of the Recreation Council, pictured below. Girls from the tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grades interested in knowing a sport by its rules and also the skillful playing of the game were selected for this group. Peggy Pryor was the senior manager, with Jaime Meadows and Jeanie Keller as junior and sophomore assistants, respectively. Doris Lydard was elected recorder, Hazel Hardin assistant recorder and Cecelia Bear treasurer. Mrs. Trimmer was the advisor. g. , Q BOYS' RECREATION COUNCIL GIRLS' RECREATION COUNCIL ll ll lE ID IE R ll C li lrll ll G lhl One ofthe inost netive organizations in lfrcderielt High Sehool is the Student Couneil. lts innlin purposes :ire to guide thc student lvody in its various sehool :ind social netivities, eneouraige good sportsnmnship and safe living, and to lretter student-faculty relu- tionships. Their constant participation added a special delightful Havor to our band. The clever routines performed by them were tedious- lv worked out before hand at their daily meetings by Hrs. Margaret Trimmer, their advisor, and Crissie Kilby, head-maioretre. This precision could not have been obtained without the full co-operation of all these maiorettes. Basketball and football half-times were made more enioyable by the talents displayed by these ten, not to speak of their ability to capture the eye of spectators at various parades. One of their most spectacular pro- grams was their performance with lighted barons in the darkened gym during half-time at two of the basketball games. Composing this group are Crissie Kilby, head- maiorette, Mary Louise Bare, Brenda Rinehart, Carol Adams, Bonnie lfox, Pauline Crummitt, Nancy Zufall, Pat Easterday, Connie Michael, and Libby Cordell. , Those seen in the picture at the left are Brenda Rine- IX hart 'Xlrs Margaret Trimmer, advisor' and Crissie Kilbv Ay head-ma'oretteT The micture below Jortravs the com- l l l 'l p-flfslb Alb VJ plete squid MMM Malolaitiririts MW if x i Xl X. 2. if NJ O are QQ 'Gfhjq .jf ipgiax-JN X Dlx Ll X ' w' l' I 1 1 f' ,I 1 , 1 I 5 f - ' ' Q 5 sk , , M 'Q ,V , ,,. QM r WARSIITY TUOTIBAILIL One of Frederick I-ligh's most spirited teams was our Varsity Football team coached by Mr. john Nlolesworth and assisted by Mr. Harold Moser. The boys' remarkable teamwork, hustling, and the will to win helped them to pull through with a record of live wins and four losses, three wins and three losses in C.Y.A.l.. league competition. Their running and passing were great assets. Ricky Zimmerman, team captain and quarterback, was the passer of the year with Dave Markey, end, there to re- ceive the passes. Dale XVarner and Allen Barnes were strong at the tackle. Austin Carver, fullback, placed on the all-state team. Larry Smith and Lefty XrVarren- feltz, halfbacks, were great ball runners. Richard Foland and Larry Layman, guards, and Frank .X leehan, center, completed our winning eleven. ll W lFCOOTlllAILIL From the looks of this year's j.Y. Football team, the varsity in years to come will have hopes of good material. This spirited team was strong defensively as well as offensively. Richard Markey did an excellent job as quarterback, and Skip Wenzel proved a speedy halfback. Bobby Fry was another excellent halfback. David .Xlarkoe will be quiet an asset on the varsity in the center slot next year. Some other mem- bers of the strong team were Dick Meehan, guard, Ronnie Hartsock and l'leezer Larkin, guard, Tommy Staley, fullback, Bobby Kehne, center, Terry Spurrier, halfback, Bill Zimmerman, end, and john .XlcHenry, end. Some of the team's opponents were XYestminster, Hanover, and South Hagers- town. lt racked up a season's record of four wins and three losses. 117 :RICK 'WAYNE GEISBEQT MAN 95 LET BEN DOX NIE. !:QB,!3.!.W IM DA .w wf L vw Z 'QA K1 ' ' 'ig iq X W 'LX I I x 1 5 Xl Q' we W it 1 I I 1 if , , W some Ho cus DANN , BUTCH TERM MAN NIEEHAN I-IRIS X , K ffg ' 5 ' f i fy 'V 1 L L :lv Ausvu G nven 3,4 W mi: IN-... iff!-Sm .1 f x R 1 las ' ' , 'sw 4 J, Q ,, - 9 - ' gf 'E' 3 f iw W B 5-I -W 'ex was ' Wy' v 3, 5' ii ' - Q W ' f Y' N.
