Q Szacu ly Teaching at a small college requires a sacrifice of personal freedom and implies a challenge to individual ability. The competition is not great, but criticism from all sides is strong. Professorship at such an institution demands an interdependence and co-operation among faculty members. The small size of the student body results in a close contact between students and faculty. Since the ideal small college should be a tidy homogeneous community, personal contribution by each of its members is a requisite for the maintenance of an equi- librium and a constant, gradual progress. For a very young college, the rate of expansion and the establishment of a student body of high caliber depends heavily on the influence of a good faculty. Through their inspiration and their example, the intellectual atmosphere of the campus is charged. To the students, they represent the voice of authority in each of their individual fields. They have the personal power to arouse or smother a student's native curiosity in a particular area of knowledge. We look to our faculty with gratitude for those professors who have been the most demanding of us, and the most enthusiastic about their subject matter, and we remember all of them, as each has had his effect upon the development of our minds and our lives.
