yy 1131515125 7 gee Czfczf Last year the tradition of music recitals by mem- bers of that department were begun. Among the first was a recital given by Miss Sallye Hayman and Mr. Charles Torian. The power on campus Went off in the middle of the recital and candlelight was hastily improvised. Thus the tradition of a candle- light recital was begun. This year Miss Hayman accompanied Mr. Torian once more in a recital given in April. The candlelight was an impressively romantic setting to compli- ment the superb music. Others offering recitals this year will be gradu- ating seniors Joey Collins, Ronald Collins and M. K. Deans. Miss Hayman 8: Mr. Torian uifwm Mr. Torian demonstrates his skill on the alto sax Sallye also participated with three solos.

The S.V.E.A.'s main purpose is to acquaint prospective teachers, mem- bers, and non-members with the basic requirements of the state in which they intend to teach. Secondly, it attempts to present would-be teachers profession. Occasionally, there are guest speakers from various school to attend state SVEA conventions. Miss Withers is the SVEA's Faculty Advisor, and Louise Smith is its President. I37 with some of the daily difficulties that will confront them in the teaching systems throughout the state.
