Like a piece of driftwood floating on the surface of a glassy sea we started the school year. However, before long the winds began to blow and we were buffeted on the waves of a churning sea of activities. So many things to do-classes, meetings, athletic events, parties, more classes- and still more classes! Suddenly we seemed to be tossed by the rising and falling of the tide, and at times almost pulled under by currents so strong that we were afraid we were lost. Then one day we were abruptly washed up on the shore. At first it was hard to believe that the last assignment had been given, term pa- pers were in, the last exam had been taken, and we had packed our bags for the last trip home for the year. As we look back, it is impossible to re- member all the things we did, all the hours when we found rest and peace just watching the water ever rushing to the sea wall, or the security we felt with understanding congenial friends. The Driftwood Staff knows that a moment once lived cannot be recaptured, except perhaps with pictures. And so we have tried to capture by word and picture and bind within one volume the life we have lived here at Frederick. As you sit on the beach remembering the past, it is the sincere wish of the Staff that this-The Driftwood of 1964-will bring a smile, a laugh, or perhaps even a tear in reliving the events of this past year of your college life. .l Zrygzby f7a6Q if Gonfenfs Administration . . . . . l7 Organizations . . . 27 Greeks . . . . . 51 Athletics . . . . . 69 Classes ... ...lO7 Features . .. . . .l77 Directory . . . . . .196 Whata-ya bet it's hot dogs again? 1? Known throughout the southeast as an author as well as dramatist we are privileged to have shared the brilliance of his mind, his artistic talents, his kindly, cheerful, and stimulating personality. Throughout his four years at Frederick College he has gratuitously shared his ingenious abilities to promote the growth of individual students and to produce and direct superb performances by the Frederick Players which have greatly con- tributed to the establishment of our young college as a reputable and competitive four-year Liberal Arts College. For this per- sonal and professional contribution we express our sincere appre- ciation and gratitude to a most admired and respected friend. E217 SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS Seated, L. to R.: Lee Mumford, Annette King, Standing, L. to R.: Louis Swoope, Ronald Jones We, the class of l964, are the graduates of a college yet in its infant stage. We are the yield of a second year's harvest, Vve are the heralds-proud precursors of the excellence that Frederick is growing vigorously, though sometimes imperceptibly, to produce. To play this role as pioneer graduates is the climax of years of striving after goals, and of being disillusioned by occasional fail- ure, it is the climax of moments of disconsolate despair -then, young scintillating joy and hope, it is the climax of learning day by day, better to understand people and principles. Now, mature men and women, we stand erect and prepared for the fulfillment of our lives in the world and for the contribution we will make to society thru each of our careers. We are indebted to the faculty, the administration, the board of trustees, and our fellow students for the under- standing guidance and interested co-operation they have given us. We leave Frederick now-with relief that we have triumphed in our trial, with regret that we leave so much behind, and with readiness for the future no mat- ter where, what, or who it will be for us. When you travel the trails we have broken and made clear for you, remember us. Someday our lives may cross again. 9 enzbr Q55 0 1964 ' ff- ' ,- ,9 g. .
