FOREWORD In September 1958 two hundred and seventy students came to Frederick College for the first time with great anticipation both for themselves in a new venture and for the college in its new venture. The students felt that they were to be a very definite part of the history of Frederick College as they were its first students. Days, weeks and months of planning, hoping and dreaming became a reality on this bright September day. Dormitories had been readied, faculty and staff had arrived, classrooms, cafeteria and all the other phases of the college life were in readiness for this first and important student body. Frederick College came into being as a result of an idea and a dream of Mr. Fred W. Beazley, a native of Portsmouth, Virginia. To carry out his dream Mr. Beazley along with his wife Marie C. Beazley and Fred W. Beazley, Jr., established the Beazley Foundation in 1948. One of the expressed purposes of the Foundation was to establish in Portsmouth Frederick College. During the ten years Mr. Beazley, his wife and son gave of their time and talents and money to make it possible for worthy young people to have an education. It is a tribute to the Beazley family that they have devoted their energies to the creation of a school which will serve and help to mold and develop young men into fine citizens.
