The Commanding Officer Comtnamlin Officer Commander Lewis E. Davis Jr. United States Navy V s) m Commander Lewis E. Davis Jr., U. S. NAVY was born June 28, 1918 at Clearfield, Pennsyl- vania. In 1940, Cdr. Davis graduated as a Mer- chant Marine Engineer from the Pennsylvania State NauHcal School Ship, U.S.S. ANNAPOLIS, U. S. Naval Shipyard, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and served as an engineer of merchant vessels until September 1941 when he was called to active dutv as Ensign, U. S. Naval Reserve. From 1941 until 1947 Cdr. Davis served as engineer officer of various auxiliary vessels, and the light cruiser WILKES-BARRE. These vessels were in the European and Mediterranean Thea- tre of Operations e.xcept for a short cruise to the western Pacific at the close of World War II. Cdr. Da is transferred to the regular navy in 1946 while attending the General Line School, Other duties that followed were t YO years as E. ecuti e Officer of the destroyer minelayer, U.S.S. THOMAS E. ERASER, two years at the NROTC unit, Miami University, two vears as Commanding Officer of the destroyer escort U.S.S. HOWARD D. CROW and three years as Training Officer, Fleet Sonar School, Key West, Florida prior to reporting to command the FRED T. BERRY. Cdr. Davis is married to the former Harriett E. Flach of Lansdale, Pennsylvania. Thev have four children, Lewis 111, Celinda, Janice, and Harriett. C ' dr. Da is parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis E. Davis are presently residing at Clearfield, Pennsvlvania.

The Executive Officer Executive Officer Lieutenant Commander William McGovekn United States Navy Ui Ail •n LCDR. William McGovern, USN assumed dutv as executive officer in January 1956. After enlisting in 1937, LCDR. McGoveni served for si. years in the Battle Cruiser Force in the Pa- cific, during which time he rose to Chief Radio- man. . s a Warrant Officer he served as the Radio .Material Officer on board the U.S.S. PHOENLX CL-46 until ordered to Electronics School in 1944. While in school he was commissioned Ensign, USN. His first assignment after gradu- ation from electronics school in 194.5 was the U.S.S. WARRINGTON DD-84.3. Successive tours on the U.S.S. WITEK EDD-848, Staff COM- DESRON EIGHT, STAFF COMDESLANT, and GeiuTai Line School followed. Prior to his present assignment to the FRED T. BERRY he attended Ohio State UniversitA ' , graduating with a B.A. degree in 1955. LCDR. McGovern is married to the former Dolores Elizabeth Tozer of Glen Cove, New- York. They have two children, Kathleen Victoria and Thomas Howard.
