.. 'aw-M. When we embarked upon our voyage on the good ship The Commodore as seventh graders, we looked with awe upon our new surroundings: the teachers, the classrooms, our new studies, and the seniors that looked so big. Island hopping to our next landmark, the eighth grade, we became more familiar with the school and its routine. And guess what! the seniors shrank a little. Our captain's log shows that in our Freshman year we sailed into a sea of activity in the Senior High building. Beginning to realize our meaning here, we buckled down to work. We became active socially, too, attending dances, football games, and basketball games. We had the privilege of electing our first May Queen attendant, Beverly May, who has since moved away. Our closely knit crew learned together to the halyards creating a very active year before we passed the landmark of our Sophomore year. The football queen's attendants from our class, our first, were Helen Jane Gonoski and Hazel Evans. We started our very successful canteens which were held in the school gymnasium every other Thursday. During our Sophomore year, our special dance was a Valentine's Day Dance with music furnished by our canteen disc jockey Slops. Shirley Anne Masch was chosen to represent our class in the May Day exercises. A class picnic, our first class social function, was held at Torkishs'. 84
