Newmeyer. Perry had suffered severe personnel losses at graduation last year and the picture looked any- thing but rosy when grid drills started in August. However, Coach Mains did quite a bit of juggling and worked the boys so that the result was a stunning 26-6 victory over highly favored, experienced Bellmar in the opener. That win seemingly gave the boys the spirit they needed. The second tussle was also a tough one with the top con- tender for the Class B champion- ship. Perry pulled a surprising win over Ellsworth by defeating them 13-0. For the first time since the year began the Commodores were favored and they lived up to their rating by defeating Point Marion 19-6. The tragedy struck in the form of the flu bug! The boys were out of action for two weeks as games with Snowden Township and 54 TROPHY Bellmar . . Ellsworth . . Pt. Marion . . West Newton , , , , E. Huntington S. Huntington . . , Masontown . . Centerville were cancelled and then the scheduled game with West New- ton was delayed two days because of the sickness. As far as Perry was concerned, it might as well have been called off too as the Hornets dumped the visiting Ad- mirals, 21-19. The Commodores had a couple of starters home in bed with the flu. However, Perry eleven poun- ced right back with wins over East Huntington 34-6 and South Hunting- ton 7-0. Then the Commodores fell again at the hands of the Gunners of Masontown, 15-0. This was the first time the Admirals failed to score in 32 games. The ball just wasn't bouncing their way. The Perry eleven registered 119 points during the season and yielded but 48 tallies. With so many of the boys scheduled to return in 1958, the future looks promising for the Commodore Club.
