FOGTB LL The Red Raiders debut in football this past season was wrought with a lot of tough luck and heart-rending decisions. The grid- iron squad started the season with a keen interest and enthusiasm and when the first :lame arrived the team seemed quite capable. Newark St. Francis brought an experienced, all-senior team to compete against the inexperienced Raiders. First came word that the quarterback, Jim Sarchet. was ineligible be- cause his parents had moved from the Frazeysburg school district. The veteran South Zanesville outfit was met next, and they defeated the Raiders 32-12 after a close first half. The eve of the return engagement with Newark saw the car accident of Myron Ardrey, and the loss of his 190 lb. center and tackle for the remainder of the season. Needless to say, Newark, Connotton Valley, and South Town in return engagements defeated the Breen and depleted team to gnc the Rcd Raiders a first year record of 1 win and 5 losses It is interesting to note that the team was very fortunate in that no one received a serious 1nJury and that the minor cuts and skin ahraslons were much less in number than those sustained by the basketball squad This seems to bear out the fact that football vv.th all the protective cluthmz and equipment is much safer than basketball where you have no protection and a hard wood surface tc fall on Newt year F HS will compete in a football league lname to be decided later: of four members Junction City Newark it Fran cs South Lanesville and Frazeysburz They will meet cach team twice a total of six names The vvxnner IS to be crowned champion and a trophy presented The coaches by vote shall select an all star team of the complete leacue In addition to the league games Hanover Toboso will be met in the season s opener to complete the schedule Tt IS also planned to have a homecommg game next year with a queen and her court Ot attendants and a dance af er the game our 1' ill? 3 T , B. .A B.
