Does it seem hard to realize that the class of 1951 now confronting you in all its strength and beauty, with its wealth of experience written on its various features, was ever a class of silly young freshmen? We were, indeed. With nothing in our brains but a lot of nonsense and nothing in our open actions but a lot of giggles, yet such is the fact. That such a lot of silly, empty-headed, rattle brained youngsters could ever have developed into noble, thoughtful and wise-appearing seniors, is indeed something to be thank- ful for. Some of us have been together for twelve years. To such ones we can only say, we have weathered a good many storms together and have found school life not all a bed of roses. But we must truthfully say that whatever of trouble and annoyance has come to us has been largely our own fault and the natural result of our own carelessness, indifference or outright disobedience to rules which we understood perfect- ly well. Unlike previous classes, we took our senior trip at the beginning of our senior year. It had its ad- vantages as well as its disadvantages. We were able to reminisce together throughout the year, but what is the end of the school year without a trip? We are indebted to Mr. Lee who served us as sponsor from the seventh grade through to graduation. He kept after us, otherwise we might not have had enough finance to see us through. We, as a staff, are happy to be able to include our two sister township schools. Red Corner and South Elwood, in this edition. The two schools provide many of the students in our junior high and high school. We are indebted to them for much of our basketball material, etc. Mrs. Ruth Curts is principal of the Red Corner School and Mrs. Jenny Russell, South Elwood. ATHLETICS Page Forty The Talon Club The Talon Club was organized a few years ago for the purpose of furthering the interest in sports in Frankton High School. The membership in the club is limited to those who have participated in at least one sport activity during the current school year. Members in the club this year represent such activities as track, baseball and basketball. Girls' Physical Ed Class Just because the major sports in F H S are participated in chiefly by the boys is no reason for the girls to feel that they should have second place. The girls’ classes under the direction of Mrs. Saathoff enjoy many of the same sports as those enjoyed by the boys — softball, volleyball, kickball, dodgeball, push-ups, sit-ups, wheelbarrow, etc. Rex Etchison, pitcher Page Forty-Two Dick Davis, third base ’PpBL Jack Feight, center field Ronnie Dickinson, short stop Max Henderson short stop Jack Waymire, center field Kenny Idle, left field Bob McPhearson, short stop Page Forty-Three Kay Friend, right field Page Forty-Four The Varsity Team (Back Row, left to right) Danny Gillam, Rex Etchison, George Parker, Ber- nie Murray. Yell Leaders This year we broke tradition and the student body selected three yell leaders instead of the traditional two. An important part of any game is a lively pep squad, led and directed by peppy leaders. Jerry Moyer was held over from last year, with Paul Land, a senior, and Carolyn Knight, a sophomore, added to the growing list of F H S cheer leaders. Page Forty-Five Second Team... Freshman Team...
