CLASS COLORS Blue and White MASCOTS Kathryn Humble Randal Smith CLASS HISTORY It is hard to believe that four years ago we were Freshmen. Because our school burned a few months afterward, it left us lost in this new kind of school life. Soon, however, we settled down to it and really began enjoying ourselves. One year later we became Sophomores! We attended Ramseur High School all year. This year we were quite used to all the people in high school and we knew where we stood. We also had the pleasure of knowing how the freshmen felt. We had a Christmas party and other enjoyable activities during this year. After a short vacation we returned for our Junior year, which was filled with many happy events. One was--we moved back to Franklinville. Johnny Carter led our class as president. Six members of our class were honored to wear Beta Club Pins. The proud wearers of the red and white on the basketball court were Pat Prevo, Edith Craven, Dewey New, CalvinScruggs. Carlton Cox, and Astor Kinney. After our class rings arrived, we were very excitedand proud to show them to the underclassmen. The Junior-Senior Ban- quet was the highlight of the year. The theme was SONG OF THE ISLES, and it was so pretty that it was worth all the work we put into it. Then came May, when we presented the Daisy Chain to the departing Seniors, It wasn't long before we realized that we were Seniors! With Johnny Car- ter as our class president; Jewell Nance, Vice-President; Edith Craven, Sec- retary, and Robert Shaw as Treasurer, we proceeded onward toward graduation, Our grade-parents took us out to a wonderful Christmas supper which we shall never forget. The annual staff and members of the class all worked hard with the editor of THE CARDINAL, Pat Prevo, on the successful annual of 1956. Although our four years at Franklinville High were short, we have had many happy experiences that will remain a part of us forever. As we leave our school it is not with regret that we say ''Goodbye,' ' but with the happy task of adjusting ourselves to the world and remembering the CLASS OF 1956. Astor Kinney, Historian CLASS PROPHECY In this day and age, many people say that ''nothing is impossible.'' This thought, together with our class motto, ''Where There's a Will, There's a Way,' '! takes us into the future ten years to see the Seniors of '56 as they appear in the year 1966. It maybe strange and surprising to see the future of the gradu- ating class before us, but let's take a look. Shall we? I see Doris Allred and her husband have just moved into their new home outside of Asheboro. In her spare time, she visits Randolph Hospital and reads stories to the children there, Johnny Carter is now teaching mathematics in a northern university. It seems only yesterday he was presiding over our class meeting in high school. Frances Coble is still helping her husband take care of their farm in Ala- mance County, and from what I hear, she is doing an excellent job. What's this? Carlton Cox is at spring training with the Detroit Tigers, I see his big dream came true. Good luck Cox, I know your former classmates are rooting for you 100 per cent, Bascom Craven is president of a big chain store circuit. He is living like a king and making millions. Our veryattractive and intelligent Edith Craven was just voted ''Miss North Carolina,'' and soon she will be competing for the ''Miss America title at Atlantic City. I see Carolyn Frazier has given up teaching to go stay with her husband, who is conductor for a big construction company in Rome, Dorothy Henson, who recently opened Dot's Beauty Salon, is doing very well. Shehas trouble explaining to the men that it is a beauty shop for women, not a barber shop. I see Clifford Humble finally got the farm he had always wanted--1000 acres of it. We need more people like him to help feed our ever-increasing population. Who is this? Why it's I, Nolan Hurley! A research chemist for the Rexall Drug Company. It looks as if my courses in chemistry are paying off after all, Duke Carolina football on TV today with Astor Kinney on hand for the Play by play accounts as it happens,'' Keep your eyes glued to the TV screen, because I know it's going to be a thrilling game. I see Joseph Kinney is doing very well for himself, too. He is chief auto- mobile designer for the Ford Motor Company. He and his family are living near Detroit. CLASS PROPHECY Betty Luck Wilson doesn't have time to goanywhere since she and her husband moved into their modern home, which is automatically controlled by buttons. When she finishes pressing and dusting the buttons, she doesn't have time to do anything else. I seethat Effie Luckmarriedone of her oldsweethearts. I hear she makes a very efficient housewife. Doris Malone's secretarial career came to an end after she married her handsome boss. He now employs a sweet, grey-haired old lady. Hubert Morgan finally opened his TV repair shop. Good luck, Hubert, and may all your picture tubes be large ones. I saw Jewell Nancethe other day. She was driving her husband to the office in one of their new Cadillacs. Her husband had to buy two of them because she couldn't decide which color was prettier. Do you want to know what happened to Calvin and Buddy? Well, watch for the grand opening of Scruggs New's Furniture Store next week, I hear their specialty is going to be psychiatrist's couches. Did you see that picture on the front page of The Saturday Evening Post? Yes, it was Pat Prevo. She is just out of modeling school and already you can see her picture all over the country. For the past eight years, Robert Shaw has beeninthe Air Force. If he doesn't re-enlist again, he has a job as pilot waiting for him with TWA. Betty Sue Smith, the famous oil painter, has many paintings to her credit. You canfindat least one of her masterpieces in every art museum inthe United States and France. Peggy Smith is stillengaged, but soon she will have a wedding band to match her diamond after her fiance graduates from medical school. I see Carolyn Trogdon is still receptionist for a big law firm in Greens- boro. James Thorpe just bought out a large trucking company. Many people are depending on him for his fast and dependable service. It wasn't hard for meto see the future of the graduatin g class tonight, and we are very happy to share our coming years with you. That, Friends, is the future of the Class of '56. Nolan Hurley, Prophet LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT We, the graduating class of 1956, realizing that the close of our school days is near at hand, think it wise toleave something to those who in the future will take our places. In the course of our high school days, naturally, we have accumulated various and valuable possessions; our years have been fruitful. We have ac- quired a vast store of knowledge along with some other things that will help us through our lives. Many problems and happy moments have taken place in our lives since we entered the first grade twelve long years ago. But down the path where our footprints have trodwe have had the wonderful guidance and help of our princi- palandteachers. They have helped us over the rough spots, helped us with our many problems, and have sharedin our happy moments. We hope the foot- prints that we leave at dear old 'Franklinville High will be memories to be cherished, As we leave here, we also leave our valuable possessions, because the Juniors would be handicapped if we took them with us. To our principal, Mr. Holland, we leave our deepest appreciation for his helpfulness and co-operation in helping us to achieve our goal. To our sponsor, Miss Buie, we can never express the help she has been to us, and so we leave our heartfelt thanks for her guidance and interest in all of our class activities.
