herself or anofher whaf is going fo happen. Life is a mysfery. Life is like a closed door fhaf hides everyfhing. My goodness, when you come fo fhink of if, life resembles lofs of fhings, doesn'f if? Now fhaf we have discussed revolving doors on fhe humorous and serious side, l fhink if is fime enough fo cafch hold of our doors, fhaf are never sfill buf always in acfion, and fell you fhaf you have reached fhe end. Our doors are af lasf quief. Lucille Gusfow I A NEW DOOR OPENING One nighf in January a new door will open for mosf of fhe presenf eighfh fermers. Affer graduafion fhis door will lead some fo college, ofhers fo iobs. For, some if will bring happiness and success, fo ofhers grief and failure. , While fhis new door opens fo fhe fufure and brings fhe responsibilifies of man and womanhood, fhere is also one closing. The door fhaf closes will mean fhe end of our high school career. Never again will we sif in fhe classrooms, fool in fhe halls, and cheer af fhe baskefball games as sfudenfs of Lane. We will probably remember fhese four years as long as we live, and now fhey are finished. For a few fhey were easy, enioyable years, while ofhers found fhem difficulf and filled wifh hard work. Buf, now we are receiving our diplomas, we have succeeded fhis far, and fhaf door fo fhe fufure is opening. This opening and closing of doors will remain wifh us unfil deafh closes fhe final one. Each new job or advancemenf, fo some each new degree, will be fhe key opening fhe nexf door fo somefhing higher and beffer, Affer each misfake, we can close fhe door fo fhaf episode and sfarf over. ' l-lerberf Brusf A DOORS OPEN TO YOUTH To fhe average high school Senior doors have a parficular meaning. The problem confronfing us is which door leads by fhe shorfesf roufe fo fhe greaf door of success. However, if isn'f all as simple as if may sound, for fhere are so very many doors fo choose from. Nafurally many of us reach our desfinafions, and yef many more are leff frapped in fhe anferoom. The word frapped is perhaps a liffle foo sfrong for fhere is a mysfery involved which musf be solved. Nof whaf lies on fhe ofher side of fhis porfal, buf rafher how fo open fhis door is our problem. As we leave high school on fhe nighf of Commencemenf, liffle do we realize fhaf never again are we fo pass fhrough fhese doors which we have been enfering and leaving fhe pasf four years. There is no key on earfh fhaf can open fhese doors for us again. Whaf lies inside is fo us a parf of The pasf, and as we leave fhe building, we feel fhaf we are sfepping info a new world. Perhaps we may refurn and wish fhaf I2

.LH The Prom WhaT one Thing occupies The mind oT The Senior more Than any oTher, wiTh The pos- sible excepTion oT holidays? ls iT RegenTs, The Tinal sTruggle To graduaTe, or whaT he will do upon leaving high school? No, iT is noT any oT These, buT a much more im- porTanT problem ThaT holds him. Upon enTering The eighTh Term, The sTudenT is obsessed by The idea of The Prom . Now some oT you may ask, WhaT is The Prom? , buT To mosT, There is no need oT explanaTion Tor They know ThaT iT is The social highlighT oT graduaTion, The Senior Dance. From The momenT The Prom is menTioned, The normal sTudenT becomes pensive and develops a scruTinizing naTure. Perhaps The mosT suiTable way in which To il- lusTraTe This reacTion is To convey The idea by means oT a play lalThough a play in diTTerenT Torm, in which no characTer speaksl. The scene opens wiTh Bill, our hero, planning The Type oT girl he would be proud To Take To The Prom, making sure oT all qualiTies she musT possess To measure up To his expecTaTions. The Prom is The iniTial incidenT in our play: The anTecedenT acTion is in The dim, dark pasT beTore BiII's enlighTenmenT. ATTer his model is compleTed, a Trial period OT abouT six monThs musT be lived Through, during which Bill is searching, waTching, waiTing, ever TesTing The gualiTies oT This or ThaT girl To Tind The acme oT perTecTion. All This is The rising acTion or involuTion in our play. The Torces ThaT are pulling againsT one anoTher are The Torces oT naTure, which declare Bill will eiTher go To The Prom wiTh The model girl , or sTay aT home. Time passes, disappoinTmenTs come and go, and Tinally The seemingly righT girl appears on The scene, in The person oT Mary. BuT alack and alas, she isn'T perTecT aTTer all, Tor iT doesn'T Take Bill long To discover ThaT she cannoT Lindy . This a hearTbreaking discovery, and liTe is cerTainly noT whaT iT should be, nor is anyone perTecT . The nexT Thoughr oT sagacious Bill is ThaT he should be a liTTle less par- Ticular and Try To Teach Mary To Lindy in Time Tor The big evenT. So back he goes, buT all Too laTe, Tor Mary has promised To aTTend The big evenT wiTh some oTher boyf, and Bill is The unTorTunaTe one. This brings us To The climax OT our play, and we Tincl Bill very, very downhearTed and discouraged. BuT suddenly, he remembers The girl who siTs nexT To him in hisTory class: she was raTher nice, come To Think oT iT. He had never parTicularly noTiced her beToreq buT since he has been so busy, how could he? Now, abouT The girl: She mighT be classiTied as The esTheTic Type, and while noT beauTiTul, cerTainly, very charm- ing. She is noT exacTly Bill's ideal girl : buT well, The Prom is drawing near, and one cannoT conTinue The search Tor The perTecT liT There is The perTecT T. Bill goes home exciTedp prepares TirsT This speech and Then ThaT, Trying all The Time noT To be or seem presumpTuous. The wrong speech mighT be TaTal To The desired resulTs, and ThaT would be Terrible. Finally his speech being leTTer 'perTecT, he approaches The girl aT The proper momenT, only To Tind he has TorgoTTen all The planned phrases and is speaking exTemporaneouslyl IT is here ThaT we have our Talling acTion or evoluTion, Tor The girl is very sweeT and gracious, making cerTain ThaT she is sympaTheTic, buT neverTheless, iT is a reTusal. Our hero, compleTely deiecTed, decides ThaT he doesn'T wanT To go aTTer all: ThaT he will sTay aT home and read a good book The nighT oT The Prom . This is our de- nouemenT or end. Bill resembles a greaT many sTudenTs, perhaps even ourselves, and so l mighT appropriaTely end wiTh The saying WhaT Price Prom? . Frances Georgens , A .A A I4 .
