Jobs in facfories wifh long hours and low wages have been replaced by beffer working condifions, higher wages, shorfer hours, and an increase in employmenf caused by mass producfion. Doors of opporfunify are sfeadily and rapidly being opened fo youfh. Our faflrrers and grandfafhers considered a few dollars a week high wages, while our children and grandchildren will nof even fhink of working for less 'rhan fiffeen dollars a week. Bigger and beffer indusfries are being infroduced fo us. For example, many of us have heard adverfisemenfs abouf air-condifioning, fhe new and growing indusfry, and felevision, an almosf complefed developmenf of fhe radio. Speaking of fhe radio, fhis invenfion alorig wifh fhe porfable radio, elecfric vicfrola, moving picfures, and ofhers, has broadened fhe field of enferfainmenf for +he youfh of our counfry. Doors of hope and beginning may sfill be opened fo arf, music, and liferafure, as fhey never die. Youfh foday has many roads fo furn on, and fhe fufure may perhaps hold beffer fhings in sfore. The doors of social life seem fo be open more fo youfh 'roday fhan in yesferyear. Nof only socially, buf polifically, youfh seems fo be inferesfed in governmenf affairs. Doors are everywhere! Alfhough fhey may vary and be difficulf fo find, 'rhe doors when opened begin a new life of happiness, hope, and mysfery. Youfh can find doors fo science, educafion, indusfry, enferfainmenf, arf, liferafure, music, and social and polifical affairs if fhey only will furn fhe door-knob and go in. Evelyn Wemssen A CN REVOLVING DOORS l guess we have all heard fhe sfory of fhe man who came fo New York Cify from a very small fown, and wenf fo see all fhe large deparfmenf sfores. Do you remember whaf happened fo him? No. Well, fhen l shall fell you. He came 'lo fhe firsf large sfore and commenced fo walk in, buf he mef wifh difficulfy. Here was a new kind of door. Whaf did you do fo if in order fo enfer fhe sfore? He walked over fo if, and wenf info one of fhe liffle spaces. Then 'l'he frouble sfarfed. He began fo go 'round and 'round and 'round, He didn'f know how fo sfop if. Finally affer he had gone around for abouf fwenfy-five minufes, a sfranger who saw his frouble helped him ouf. This wasn'+ humorous fo our small fown dweller af all: he fhoughf fhaf revolving doors were ferrible and resolved never fo lef anybody have fhem insfalled in his fown. Now fhaf we have heard abouf revolving doors on fhe humorous side, sfop and fhink abouf fhe serious side. l fhink fhey somewhaf resemble a person's life. The doors go 'round and 'round only sfopping when fhe sfore closes. Well a person's life goes 'round and 'round, only if doesn'f ever sfop, nof even when one is sleeping. Life goes 'round in fhe respecf fhaf you are wealfhy: fhen poor, sick: fhen healfhy, and so on. Life never sfands sfill. lf is always doing somefhing new. Of course fhis is nof fhe case of every single individual, buf for fhe maiorify l fhink if is. Revolving doors differ from a person's life in only one ofher respecf, and fhaf is fhe following. Mosf doors of fhis kind are made ouf of glass so fhaf you can see info whaf or where you are going, buf nof so wifh life. No one has fhe charm fo fell
