FREDERICK E. BREIT Vice-Principal W0 YEARS from now we shall be privileged to take part in the centennial celebration of the founding of our great city, Seattle. As a part of the celebration We shall be literally first nightersv in reviewing the many physical changes of the past one hundred years. While these changes in themselves will be impressive, it is important that We do not measure progress only in terms of bigger and better buildings and an ever expanding economy. Underlying all of this visual progress is the hard Work, faith in the other fellow, a Willingness to work together and a determined will to succeed, these are the components of the real spirit of Seattle. Can We meet the challenge of an ever expanding spirit of Seattle? We, at Franklin, feel that our young people possess the necessary potentialities to meet this challenge. Through our many-sided program of education We hope to play a part in developing citizens who will not only carry on, but also be instrumental in building a spirit so basically sound that We can successfully meet the unpredictable problems of the future. FREDERICK E. BREIT

WALTER J. RESEBURG Principal Seattle and tfze Future! E ALL LOVE Seattle and her glorious past, we expect great things in the future. Her climate, her hills and valleys, and her people appeal to us. Because Seattle is situated in the fertile Pacific trough, farming is sure to be successful. Because we have quantities of minerals, coal, water power, electricity, and a mild climate, we have the assurance of abundant industry. Because we are planning wisely, our fishing and lumbering will continue productive. Here at Franklin we have a larger vision than just a physical world. We desire for Seattle and the Northwest an enlightened culture, the continued growth of our universities and colleges, greater development of the Drama, Music, Art and Science, the building of a race of men and women who love decency and unselfishness and will work and sacrifice for the true inter- pretation of democracy. Strive to make Seattle such a place for our children,s children. WALTER J. RESEBURG

e o Seattle? ROUDLY CROWNING seven hills like the fabulous city of Rome, and encircled by majestic mountains as was Athens of the golden era, rises the young city . . . Seattle. Nature has blessed her environs with treasures unexcelled. The pristine mountains lure the mountaineer, the hunter, and the artist. The crystalline slopes of snow-clad hills exhilarate the Winter sportsman. Serene Puget Sound entices the fisherman and the marine explorer. Blue lakes H11 days with adventure and thrill as sailboats race with the Wind. This gracious Queen city of the Northwest is strategically placed. To the North lie Canada and the rich pioneer land of Alaska, across the Pacific, fascinating Asia . . . all offering great potential markets for thriving world trade. To the South lie Mexico and South America with their intriguing old-world cultures. Into her World Port ply great ships bringing the fragrance and color of far places-hardwood from Honduras, curry and spices from India, tea, camphor, and pearls from the Orient. Out through her portals pass goods from the forest, fields, fisheries, and factories of the West. Trade-the passport to international understanding-is Seattle's mighty contribution toward World Peace.
