With this fact in mind the theme of autographs was selected. The signatures of many national and local figures were collected, in addition to those of your own Franklin Faculty. However, the theme doesn't end here. A great deal more White space was left for the purpose of having you all be partly responsible for the Tolo. You are to help in this respect by autographing the Tolos of your friends and thereby aiding in their completion. We present the 1943 Tolo to you hoping that you will derive as much pleasure in glancing over its pages as we have had in producing it. Because of the labor shortage the printer's deadline was much earlier than usual this year. As a result we were unable to include some autographs and other features which had been planned. QQ 7613 720 'mvatumkw In future years when we look at this Tolo we shall doubtless recall the many personages whose autographs appear here. The person behind the name is definitely the all-important figure. The name plays only an insig- nificant part. It has been claimed by some that one's character can be read from his handwriting. It behooves us then to make this picture of ourselves something to be admired. In these difficult days let us ask ourselves what type of character we are displaying. Are we wavering and indifferent or determined and anxious to do our part in the winning of this war? Are we workers? Are we careless or particular? What will our autographs show through the years? We alone have the answer. Ofiww, rw-,def K X9 N 'fl VX K X . W pf Aff! M5 TXQSEE frojwlod I, fl' 535 Mya! Expects to be drafted after graduation. Because of the large number of Juniors who have qualified to gradu- ate with the Class of 1943, it seemed advisable to divide the Senior section into two parts. In the first we have put those Seniors on the oflice September list who had their pictures taken in December. In the second we have put those on the Senior list whose pictures were taken later and juniors who are to graduate this june. An unusually large number of students have left school since our panels were mounted and engraved. We have tried to make our printed data as accurate as possible at the time that our print copy was sent to the printer. SENIORS ag 2 Xwwv I-e - A., ' r V if I xy . Plans for the organization were made by the United States Office of Educa- tion, which outlined six divisions. The lighting-front divisions are Land, Sea, and Air. The home-front divisons are Producton, Commun- ity Service, and General. Of the six, the underclassrnen are eligible to join only the general division, while the other Hve are open to upper- classmen. About seventy-five per cent of Franklin students have joined the Victory Corps. This year has been one largely of organiza- tiong all divisions should be ready for a quick and efficient start next September. This yearis Juniors will have the advantage of specializing in whatever field of service they have chosen. 37 Caroline Allamano Mollie Allward Helen Anderson John Anderson La Vonne Anderson Roy Anderson Betty Archer Mary Arten Betty Avery Ann Bachtel Mary Badolato Charlotte Bailey Jean Baird Arlene Bales Nancy Bannick Shirley Bannister Neal Barr Bill Bates Janice Bauer Belmont Beattie Barbara Beddow Doris Bengston Norman Benson Diana Benyon Beverly Berry Richard Beyerlein Wilma Blair Robert Boley Lillian Booker Betty Brandvold Hobart Brown Norman Brunberg Robert Brunswick Marian Bucklieu Ellen Burr Rosemary Byrne Louise Camerota Barbara Cammarano Lena Cappelletti Frances Carlyon Ruth Carstenson Wilma Chinn Clare Christenson Harriett Clarke Lorna Cohn JUNIO RS Q F an 'Q an M V' Y K. xt I iw 3 X lk x sl . Artists WAR-TIME ACTIVITIES 100 Courtesy of Seattle Times Don Bartholomew, Marilyn Martin, Robert Cleveland, Barbara Morgan Mr. Boselly This year the students of Franklin felt that it was their duty to engage in any and all activities that would be beneficial to the war effort. Although participation in these activities was entirely vol- untary, the student body responded heartily. Assisting with the sugar, gasoline, oil, and point rationing took up the spare time of some, while others were working in stores to help alleviate the labor short- age. Standard Red Cross First Aid was taught in the health classes. And last, but not least, many books were donated for the service-men. The students have done their best and will continue to do so until Victory is won. SOME SPECIAL GROUPS 4 FRANKLIN TOWN MEETING 103 Abernathy, John R.
