FUREWURD ONE HUNDRED FIFTY YEARS ago the busy and useful life of Benjamin Franklin came to a close. Industry, integrity and brilliancy of mind marked him as a man of unusual caliber. Rising from humble circumstances and over- coming difficulties at times seemingly insurmountable he attained positions of the greatest importance to his time. Though lacking in school opportunities he became highly educated practi- cally by his own efforts. Considered one of the great scientists, statesmen and diplomats of his day, he was repeatedly called to iill many important positions, but he remained very humble through it all. Surely he is a worthy example for every young person today who is inclined to believe his lot in life is a hard one. As students of Franklin High School we do well to emulate to a large degree the Fine qualities of our school's namesake. As citizenship and service seem to stand out particularly strong in his career, can we do better today than place these same qualities well up toward the pinnacle of our own ambition for a successful life? SIDNEY POLMERE TRATHEN.
