We entered high school in v. 1944, fifty-three strong. We t tero green, young and. sophisticated and thought we had to study. We numbered so many and were so ignorant we had to have two home room teach¬ ers , Mrs, Pearl Hatcher Starling ana Mrs. Louisa Johnson Jordan, Due z o th§ fact that we were in two rooms, we did not effect a class Organization. Our social life was rather limited. We had a Christmas party in our home rooms. and our class par¬ ty in the gym - ' ■■■■ ' .. ;; ' ’ ' ' 1 But we were trying to learn th r;opes ' of ‘’high school. Slowly, but surely our class ’ was winning honors. The following w ere Boy Scouts: Bill Belton, Nat Jones, Ivan Bowman Donald ' Blackburn, Donald Byrd, and Jimmie Shelton. In basket ball, Billy Grey Bel¬ ton and Baxter Smith were beginning to make aa name for themselves. Katherine, Wilma,:and Betty . Itried their luck .at , cheer leading, so you see we were be¬ ginning to. take our ' part-’in the extra curricula act¬ ivities of the High School. By the close of our Fresh¬ man year we numbered only fifty, but we.were look¬ ing forward to our Sophomore year. Forty-five important Sophomores returned for our second year in High School and all our greenness was gone--This year all forty-seven of us had Mrs. .
