As a climax to the assembly, trophies were presen- ted to the four best players of the year, Quarterback Club President, Bus Farmer, stated that this presentation of trophies to the five best players of the year would become a permanent fix- ture in the years to come. The players were selected by the members of the Quarterback club. Halfback Marvin Clark copped two awards, Frank- lin's most valuable player as the best offensive back, Halfback Bob Evans was chosen as the Cat's best de- fensive back. Tackle, Gene Hollingsworth was named the best offensive lineman. Guard Bob Barnes was picked as the top defensive lineman, Preceding this, Coach Smith, head mentor of the Wildcats, presented letters to 22 seasoned veterans of the football year. Seniors receiving letters were Bob Barnes, Bob Beuke, Denny Burroughs, Leon Campbell, Marvin Clark, Bob Evans, and Don Justus. Fairborn caught with their guard down were easy prey for the sharp shooting Wildcats. John Powell scored a new scoring record for Franklin with 14 field goals and 15 free throws for a total of 41 points. This topped the old scoring record of 30 points set by Darrell Hedric now playing for Miami University. Powell tied Hedrics score in the Middletown game with 9 baskets and 12 free throws for 30 points. Franklin 67 Northridge 65 The Wildcats won out over Northridge 67 to 65 on Ian- uary 9 at Northridge. The trailing Wildcats staged a comeback on a field goal by Kenny Bishop putting the Cats out ahead by 2 points. With less than a minute to play two foul shots by John Powell assured the Cats of their third victory of the season. Franklin 70 Monroe 55 The hardwood quintet of Franklin salted away a mad Monroe Hornet five on February 14. by a 15 point mar- gin, by winning 70-55 Leading by two points at the end of the first quarter, Monroe scored two points more than the Cats to tie the score thirty-two all. L. were torn abruptly out of first place by a rampaging Wildcat quintet to the turn of a 70-55 defeat. The flyers put up a desperate battle the first two quarters, but soon fell under the sharp- shooting Cats. Franklin 43 Lockland Wayne 49 In a close contest, Franklin dropped their first game of the season to the Lockland Wayne Pantheis 49 to 43. The lead see-sawed-through the first three quarters with first one team then the other in the lead. With four min- utes left in the game, the Panthers spunted to a seven point lead. Franklin 66 Hamilton Public 77 Hamilton Public proved to be too much for the Wild- cats as they dropped the second game of the season 77 to 66. A 27 point splurge by the Big Blue in the third quarter proved to be the undoing of the Cats as they could only rally 22 to Hamilton's 16 points in the last quarter. Franklin 59 Middletown 77 The Middletown Middies stole champs of l952, franded the local cagers a decisive 77 to 59 defeat on December 12 at Middletown.
