Vice- Principals Advocate Need o Student nvolvement Those who are active should exert every possible effort to encourage each person to take part in activities. Per- sonal contact and request is the best way to encourage involvement. Mrs. Verna Miller feels that students should be drawn into involvement by others. Mrs. Miller supervises girls' affairs and activities and counseling. She promotes the establishment of excellent attend- ance habits. After being away from the high schools so long, it,s just great to be back, commented Dr. C. V. Cremer. This is Dr. Cremer's first year working directly with young people after thir- teen years with the Personnel Depart- ment of the Portland Public Schools. As administrative vice-principal for boys' attendance and discipline, school finance, and athletics. Dr. Cremerls long range goal is to encourage and persuade every young person to continue his edu- cation until high school graduation. 20 Academics Dr. Cremer meets a Japanese wrestler with Cary Hunnel. Mr. King Seeks Feedback As supervising vice-principal, Mr. .lack King,s duties include: evaluating teach- ers, selecting and distributing of all educational supplies, and programming and forecasting for the coming year. Mr. King works with teachers, depart- ment chairmen, and the Curriculum Council on the improvement of Frank- lin's curriculum. Mr. King wants to get feedback from tho students concerning their likes and dislikes of the curriculum, to help the Student Curriculum Council become an effective body. Mr. .lack King Academics 19

Mr. F litcro t and Mr. Wal Aid the Ad- ministration The Administrative Assistant at Frank- lin High School, Mr. Marvin Flitcroft, serves as an extension of both Adminis- trative Vice Principals' offices. Mr. Flit- croft acts as their representative in carrying out duties involving conditions in halls, auditorium, cafeteria, and on or around the campus. In addition, the Administrative Assistant has duties which relate to attendance and welfare of students. As Franklin's Athletic Director, Mr. Frank Wolf describes his position as that of a Gloriiied Equipment Man- ager. He supervises all home games and keeps an account of the athlete equipment. Mr. Wolf feels an athletic program consists of uthose people who participate and those who view as spec- tators. He believes more participation is needed, especially from the students, Before assuming the position of Athletic Director this year, Mr. Wolf was the football coach at Grant High School.
