New Schedule Has Advantages Mr. King, vice-principal in charge of curriculum, believes that even and odd days and independent study time for juniors and seniors have advantages over the old system. Students had to learn to keep out of the halls during their independent study time. Mr. King feels that co- operation is needed and will take time, but he is confident that it will come. He has keen interest in student participation in school affairs and many ideas about how more students can be- come actively involved. Mr. Erick- son thinks that students in a posi- tion of leadership function most effectively when priority ratings are given to the goals they hope to achieve during their terms of office. With objectives well de- fined and a program of action to suggest, leaders would gain maxi- mum support from the student body. Student participation through the cabinet could begin immediately after an election on stated goals. Additional ideas and plans would develop as the var- ious standing committees work on problems in their areas of responsibility. Mr. Erickson has many ideas for making Franklin a more inter- esting and fun place as well as a place of learning for students, but it is up to the students to supply the energy and respon- sibility to put the plans into action. However, she feels that many of the problems arose from misunderstanding. She points out that the number of students leaving the building and wandering the halls was reduced when the purpose of independent study was explained and understood. Mrs. Miller also feels that this is a real step in helping students learn to accept responsibility. bm if . l f' Qit 'i f 2 I . f Mrs, Verna Miller Administration 21
