Roswitha Millo, Frank1in's 1966-67 Exchange Student. For the tenth time in the past l3 years Franklin was again hon- ored to have an exchange student. MissRoswitha Millo, Roxie, from Munich, Bavaria, Germany, was one of 29 foreign exchange stu- dents in thegreater Portland area. Although it is a priviledge to be an exchange student, the po- sition carries many restrictions and responsibilities. For the first four months of her visit to Am erica Roxiewas not allowed to speak in public. Shewas, however, agood speaker and demonstrated her skill at various functions. Roxy was an active member of the studentbody, a member of A Choir, and a columnist for theks-t. lf a heart is full of ioy and gratitude it is hard to express it on a sheet of paper. My most sincere thanks go to Mr. Westcott, his capable staff, and all the teachers who showed a lot of patience in helping me on my way. Another big thank you that lmust get off of my mind is to all the FHS stud en ts who, by their friendliness and help, made this year the success it was for me. l can'tfind the adequate words to express how much this wonder- ful experience has meant to me. Long after you have graduated and forgotten the timid exchange stud- ent from Germany, l'll sit in my rocking chair and tell my grand- c h i ld ren the exciting tale ofa young girl who spent a year in The City of Roses. . .way back in 1967. Cleanupcompetitionwith Marshall High School helped solve the chronic problem, trash around the campus. Motions were passed that girls who earn varsity letters will receive pins instead of trad- ional letters, and thatstudentbody officers other than the president can run again For office., An important event was the hosting of Jackson High School's Executive Cabinet. Fund raising projects were planned to buy card tables. Franklin students learn democratic procedure and support candidates by voting in Student Body elections. 18
